BBC: Louis Theroux on porn: The decline of an industry

Some choice quotes:

The porn industry is in crisis, its profits decimated by the impact of the illegal downloading of pirated content from YouTube-style sites and also amateurs uploading their own sex scenes on paid-for sites.

Fifteen years ago, when I did my first reporting on the porn business in Los Angeles, it was a very different picture. Back then, porn companies were making millions.

Many female performers also work as prostitutes for extra cash. Where a female performer might make $600 to $800 (£388 to £518) for a straight sex scene in a movie, she can get double that - for less work - by "doing a private".

Louis Theroux - Twilight of the Porn Stars is on BBC Two at 22:00 BST on Sunday 10 June

Thanks for this. All I get on my BBC channel is reruns of Dr. Who, Top Gear and Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares. I guess that's the American version.

mafia_man 06-11-2012 01:09 PM

Guy made a good point in the program.

Old paysites aren't enforcing their copyright and their material ends up on tubes to the negative effect of all.

Pretty much the same as BBC Canada. You've got to look for BBC News World for stuff that's kinda up to date and semi-relevant.

I thought you were against piracy?

Seemingly not. Interesting u-turn.

Brave you put your cards on the table like that.

Well, maybe if my fucking cable provider - which, I pay over a hundred dollars a fucking month for my package - maybe if they aired the god damn show on the fucking BBC channel that I get, that the show's supposed to be on; maybe then I wouldn't have to torrent it. If they actually aired shows that, you know, are actually on BBC.

It's a TV show broadcasted for free on public TV and most of us don't receive the BBC.

I'm against the unauthorized re-distribution of commercial material.

Jensen 06-11-2012 02:03 PM

Pretty embarrassing to watch. People giving a shit about everyone else in the business...

EukerVoorn 06-11-2012 02:09 PM

Yeah, just like here in GFY. There's definitely something wrong with people working in this industry.

Wow.

A) it's not free. It's paid for by the British public via the tv license. It is commercial copyrighted content you are linking to.
B) there is lots of commercial material not available in different countries due to licensing, that doesn't mean it is ok to steal it. I'd love to watch lots of tv shows unavailable in the uk. That doesn't mean I steal it.

Yet you are posting links to unauthorized distribution of commercial, copyrighted material?

I knew you were odd,, but didn't realize you were such a total massive hypocrite.

Sad day.

Oh right. So basically because you just wanted to watch it, despite it being piracy, you thought that was ok because you pay for bbc America?

There are thousands of hours of programming i pay for that are not shown on bbc America. do you think it is ok to steal all that too, or just the stuff you *really* want to watch?

Do you make content? Is is ok for me to steal it if I *really* want to see it?

Um. The photos you posted in the foie gras thread just now aren't copyrighted? What about all those other photos you included in your one million messages in here the past years? They're all not copyrighted? Or you own the copyrights of all of them?

I posted a link to a torrent file and posting that link isn't copyright infringement. Uploading and downloading the file is and I didn't even download it myself because my wireless connection is too slow for that.

No, but you are aware of the irony of a thread about a documentary of an industry that blames its decline on piracy containing you posting a link to a pirated version of that copyrighted documentary?

Also, you seem to change your tune. One minute saying it is perfectly OK to pirate it because it is "free". Then when I point out it isn't "free" you suddenly claim you didn't steal it?

As we used to say in the UK, "chinny reckon"

well, here is a good bussines idea. let start a "imaginary paysite" with J6P fucking pornstars in private with hidden cameras (they could be even offline) for something more then half of the price he would pay through the escort. just dont tell to the pornstars its not going to be published on the net.:1orglaugh, so J6P can fuck them for less then hiring them via escort.

I already knew you're a worthless piece of shit, you don't need to come with all the word playing tricks for that.

Look above. You wrote that you would NEVER violate any copyrights and that I'm the copyright violation monster. There's no difference between copyrights on videos and photos and you're including photos in your posts here all the time, so you're violating copyrights all the time, big fat period, no point to play with the words, Mr Copyright Violator! Go find a SINGLE post of my hand in here containing photos or videos.

You're a horrible cunt, never interested in having an open discussion, as you're proving again now... you pull anything trying to get your right, even though you bloody well know that you aren't right and that you were just a little too quick again with pointing your finger at someone else instead of looking at your own typical British fat Fish & Chips baby face. I see you doing it on Markham all the time and now you try doing it on me. WHAT THE FUCK makes you think I have time for useless arguing with a forum addict like you who has too much time on his hands because both his personality and business are a failure, turning him into a walking negative advertisement for himself?

"HELLO I'M DAMIAN THE NEGATIVELY OBSESSED FORUM ADDICT, HIRE ME!"

As for the irony: if only the TV industry would get affected by piracy as bad as the porn biz does, then maybe they would finally give a bit more attention to the problem. But do you mind if I chose not to discuss this further with you? When I'm walking down the street and some mentally retarded kid starts talking to me, I'm not going to have a conversation with *that* either, right? You're a retard, not worth my time. So I walk on. I have a fucking business to run.

You are an absolute nothing. Trying to be someone in here with your endless arguing and attacking people is not going to change that, on the contrary, it only makes you smaller, it makes you a dumb menstruating cunt with 10.300 posts!

Ah, already with the name calling?

Cool.

No word tricks. You are promoting piracy and trying to justify why it is OK to steal from the BBC.

No, I'd love to have a discussion about you stealing other people's work and promoting links to piracy sites.

Why do you do that?

And why do you think calling me a cunt helps your argument?

I'm sorry that you admitted to stealing content on a forum which generally looks down on content theft, but no need to name call...

Umm, so the BBC is NOT paid for by the license fee, and you DIDN'T post a link to piracy?

I'm right, you're wrong and the name calling and aggression in your post demonstrate that perfectly.

Because you keep posting on this thread trying to justify the fact you are promoting piracy.

Oh right, so you are justifying your piracy because you think the BBC makes enough money? Pathetic.

And that isn't irony, anyway.

Well name calling and trying to justify your piracy with nonsense isn't really discussing anything, it's just some kind of drunken ranting trying to excuse your piracy promotion, but whatever.

Maybe so, but I don't post links to and encourage piracy.

You do.

You should be banned.

EukerVoorn 06-13-2012 01:24 AM

If I was as childish and retarded as you, I would ask you if you own the copyrights or have permission in every single thread you've posted photos and videos.

if!

IF!

As for the rest of your post; again, could be interesting for debate, but I don't debate with retarded self endulged minors.

And asking for a ban is just another confirmation of what a pathetic forum addict you are.

PS calling a cunt a cunt isn't name calling. If you deserved a bit of respect you could be a vagina and I would call you a vagina, but you're a cunt so I call you a cunt.

Hot linking a picture from the internet into a forum post is not really the same as posting links to piracy sites and trying to justify why you stole copyrighted videos though, is it kid?

Go look up "fair use".

Sadly, that doesn't cover you stealing copyrighted content from the BBC and then promoting piracy here. :(

Very interesting for debate. You pirated a documentary, and posted a link to where other people could also pirate a documentary. I'd love to hear your excuse. You can't really be saying that because YOU think the BBC don't lose quite as much money through piracy as the porn industry does that makes it OK? I mean, that was a joke right?

And you keep saying you aren't going to post anymore, and yet you keep posting?

You're wrong. For copyright laws as applied to the internet there is no difference between hot linking or copying a photo or video file to your own site. So including photos in your posts here without asking for permission of the copyright owner is illegal. The next question is... who cares? The answer to that is: you, because you started to point your finger at suspected copyright violations. Now you would have had a point if I had posted a pirated file in here but unfortunately for you, I didn't post any files, and it is you posting pirated photos to this site all the time.

Posting a link to a copyright infringing file isn't illegal. Creating a torrent and/or uploading or downloading such a file is. If you think I created it or uploaded it or downloaded it, go report me. If you can't proof it and continue accusing me, you'll be lying. If you really thnk I uploaded that file, ask yourself why I would use an .it site for that. I don't speak a word Italian. I found a link in a Dutch forum about the same topic and posted it here.

You already know my excuse. I thought it would be fucking ironic to post a link to a pirated version of a TV show in which someone claims that an industry was killed by piracy.

It's not ironic at all. If it was claiming the TV industry was killed by piracy it would be. But I shouldn't mock you because English isn't your first language. Still, hopefully you've learned something.

There is no "win". You stole copyrighted material, tried to justify it and then tried to get other people to also steal that content. You lost right then, kid.
