Unable to play video with the new windows media player update.

Anyone else got this problem?

I'm unable to use my windows media player to watch a video protected by a user / pass (basic autentication)

I'm on XP with windows media 8.

It seems to be this update that fuck everything: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/...47/default.asp

Help!!! :helpme

Same thing here. But if I save the file, then I can play it. Who are these people that are employed to fuck people up. i tought we were, but obviously not.

I am getting too damn many calls on this already. I think we move to RM and QT

jollyperv 02-12-2003 10:11 AM

Tell your members not to update.

Dawgy 02-12-2003 11:03 AM

why does this only occur in XP? im using win2k and never have the problem... only my members with XP have reported problems.

Filter 02-12-2003 11:31 AM

In XP the damn thing updates itself (not entirely) but I sure as hell didn't pay any attention to it. it SUX! :feels-hot

On XP the bastard lags like a bitch for me. I want to get the older one back. It was way way nicer than this piece of shit :thumbsup

Well what I have been working on to help out my members is zip up each mpeg so atleast they can still download the movies. I also will offer a streaming version in windows media format. Its alot of work but atleast the members can still download the videos, and they can still stream them. I'm open to other options as well. Thats just the only option I have found because you cant just tell your members not to upgrade there players, and that doesnt help the ones that have already upgraded it.

thats the whole problem tho, offering them in wmv format... WMP wont play them if theyre behind htaccess.

god i hate microsoft. if i have to completely redo my members area because of this... ugh...

Dawgy Im going to try a few things today and test. I will let you know what I find out. This will be a big problem untill we can figure out how to stream the videos. Mad members means not as many rebills and thats a big no no.

Dawgy if you come up with anything or anyone else please post it here or ICQ me 102756498

I will post my results in a few....

Dawgy 02-12-2003 12:31 PM

ok here's what i figured out.

the files will still work if you embed them. the html is requesting the wmv file, not wmp, so it works.

if anyone needs the code for this its really easy, ill be glad to share.

hopefully microshit wont find a way to fuck this up too

I was imagining that not many people were going to start taking steps before the mass population updated , glad I did :glugglug .

I keep getting a blackout on the video in Windows Media Player 9.

Way frustrating... especially when jacking off...

Save yourself some time and build one single PHP page, the query includes the WMV file name. The script rips the query and plugs it into the embed code.

A big thanks to my friends at Gamma who found the patch to fix the patch :)
