First step is to fix your site.

Bump for you. I assume you know the reason why it was penalized and have taken steps to revert it, right?

I accidentally got around this once, for some reason I'd ended up with the same site twice in Webmaster Tools; one with the www. and one without. When the penalization arrived one day, it only effected the www one, and I didn't lose any traffic at all as the one without www was not penalized, overall the site didn't lose any traffic, it actually gained traffic.

This was over a year back

Did you get PENGUINED? If you have a MAINSTREAM site, hit me up on how to POP YOU OUT with Anchor Text diversification links through articles

An actual webmaster thread that should be at the top.

If you are talking about Panda or Penguin and not a full de-listing then it's actually fairly easy to be sure you get out it can mean a lot of work. Many people just don't want to do all the work needed and they want to try to take shortcuts which may or may not work. How much work depends on the specifics of your situation but in theory you can be out next month when they next presumably do an update if you have your shit together.

Have you waited for the next penguin/panda update after fixing what you think is the problem? Also people will tell you otherwise but I've seen evidence that the other sites on your network matter even if they aren't link to by or from the penalized site. Try to fix the problems on all of your sites on a network basis for best results. Lots of work, yes.

have done it many times

1st fix the site
2nd ask google to re index it

has worked every time

LouiseLloyd 06-04-2012 01:38 PM

Was penalised by google for link cloaking a mainstream affiliate catalogue site.
(Main menu/navigation linked to sponsor plus buy now link on each product page)

1. Fixed site of all violations (changed to commerce site)
2. submitted reconsideration request

Received reply approx 3 weeks later stating reconsideration request was successful.

Listed in google within days.

I wouldn't dream of submitting a reconsideration request unless everything you are connected to is squeaky clean. Otherwise that can come back and bite you in the ass on your other sites. If it's happening due to Panda/Penguin from what I understand they will send you a message back stating the 'penalty' was not done manually and as part of the algorithm so therefore they will not change it but will rely on the automated system.

NO because you wont say what is wrong. It could be Simple, or it could be bad.

How can someone take on a job if they do not know how big it is?

I do seo for a living, have done for years, but i'm new to adult. I see you have 13,000 posts so you might have a tip or two for me other than just posting your affiliate URLs?

If so drop me a line at carl at tourboxantalya dot com

I can't promise to help because as everyone implies, there are some penalties you just can't fix and there are some traffic smashes that aren't actually penalties. I'll have a look and let you know what the prospects are. If nec I can fix any issues myself if your site is in php/mysql.
