ok, guys this is it. this board has given me so much, now it´s the time to pay back. I decided to reveal ONE of my searchengine secrets once every week. I know some guys will hate me for that, but I don´t give a flying fuck ...

this weeks trick is about guesbooks. guestbooks are a brilliant way to take advantage of other sites pagerank. go to google and search for "guestbooks", once you´ve found a guestbook that has at least a pagerank of 4, go and add your comments (write something nice) and make sure you are allowed to add a link to your site. do this with a couple of more guestbooks and see how your own pagerank will improve.

hint: don´t sign the guestbook under your (or some fake name), use your site´s name instead, most guestbooks use this name to link to your site.

There are more threads over at Webmasterworld that imply this might not be the best strategy. Also guestsbooks tend to have lots of links and that lowers the PR passed on to you.

after this january dance i got a pr6 for my first page and pr5 on my other pages. about 60% of my backlinks are from guestbooks. at a time when i was really desperate because no one gave me good links it was the only way to get "good links". about 250 links from pr5 and some from pr6-guestbooks sites were enough to get a pr6, and here are the results for my traffic from google:
1) when i do a search on my site with google using the "similar pages"-command in the toolbar i get only 30 guestbookresults and 3-4 similar results! this shows me that the main theme for my website is not my most relevant keyword, but guestbooks. so when you sign guestbooks (no matter if you use your keywords in the link text) google will interpret it in this way that your site is about guestbooks! (why would i otherwise get guestbook-results when using the similar pages-command!)

2) my keywords NEVER appear in the top ten of the serp's although all results above me have lower pr! you don't believe it? sign guestbooks and you'll see! it's really bad, because my keywords are everywhere on my pages (title, meta, alt, filenames, url, link anchor, keyword density, just everything! i used brett ranking tipps)

i would do everything to get a pr4 instead of my pr6 if i could just remove this stupid links from the guestbooks - it was the biggest mistake i could ever make and i really advice everyone who is playing with guestbooks not to do it.

i better get a new domain - all my work since august has been destroyed just because i was so stupid to sign guestbooks :(

Guestbooks, FFA's & the like aren't bad. Just keep any in mind if you are aimlessly spamming any and all link boards that have good pagerank, you will get better positioning for a while.. but when Grandmas-Knitting-Board.com sees your www.anal-fisting-lovers.com link, head's will roll & sites will be banned (from google).

Even though "Grandma" might not know whats up, your competitors certainly will when they look up your backlinks. Everyone knows how jealous people can be in the SE ranking world.

That is why this Weekly SE TIP has been dubbed "Revealable" :winkwink:


I do find a little humor in the fact that you were one of the people bashing me on how my methods would undoubtedly result in banning - (which they don't, they are 100% legit) and here you are steering people in that direction.

We just spoke to our SEO for our main stream client work and the guestbook idea is good, but you should try to make the whole hyperlink be relevent to your site. Just getting on the coattail of a GB is not going to help. The prob with doing a keyword rich hyperlink on a non adult GB may mean they remove that entry so think it out if you are going to do this. Not slamming you idea funkmaster, just saying use some additional thought to what you add. :2 cents:

As long as were talking about spamming GB's and FFA's - do both (use keywords and the url) as the domain in the link gives rank as well.

ie: Hey Grandma! Need a break from that knitting? Well let me tell you - vvww.69-anal-fisting-lovers.c0m Has all the knuckle burrying, ass reaming lovin your looking for!

True but he stated to make the hyperlink more relevent to your site keywords. But if you have knitting on your site that may help rank :)

The link was broke because of that [ url ] tag on the www and .com now you can see the rest of the keywords.

Either way, I hope you get the point I'm trying to make ;)

If you give your competitors ammo to use against you, they'll eventually use it.. and if were talking top 5 positioning... plan for the ban.

Big guestbooks tend to have lots of links. Small guestbooks tend to have very few. I'm not saying it's not a VALID way to get pagerank, I'm just saying it'll get you banned sooner than later if you abuse it properly :winkwink:

when i first started and heard "link backs are what you need!!!"

well my first move was to hit the GB's.

my main site pleasuredvds.com has a PR3 i think, gets some hits but mostly from search strings that include porn star names that i have listed on my site like "jenna jameson" or something.


ive been listed for a long ass time now after my whole GB submitting time, dunno how much it helped though.

What about only signing the guestbooks of adult sites? There are a few...
