A vet told me my cat was blind
I got a kitten last week (6 weeks old) and i figured something was wrong when we got her. She seemed very nervous and it looked like she didn't have much vision at all, and was bumping into most things in the house.
At first i figured it was just a sleepy kitty, but it became clear something wasn't right. So being the weekend, the local vets were closed, so we took her to the Vet Hospital in the city. They told us outright, the cat was 100% blind. They offered to have her put to sleep, or asked if we thought we could give the kitty a decent enough life, we could see how we go and maybe decided later if we didn't think it was working out and fair on the kitten. I got charged £120 from the vet. After debating about it, we decided to get a 2nd opinion from the local vet. After doing some quick tests, they concluded the kitten is NOT blind at all. They told us the kitten needed another couple of weeks with it's mother, and it's familiar surroundings, and then try again and see how it goes after that. I have since took videos of the kitten which 100% prove she can see no problem at all. After complaining to the orginal vet hospital, and telling them they almost put a perfectly healthy animal to sleep, they gave a small apology, but refused when i told them i wanted my money back, since they got it completely wrong. Anyone ever had to deal with anything like this happening with their pets ?? It wouldn't be a good advert for the hospital if people knew they could get things as wrong as they did. I wonder how many pets they have put to sleep which didn't have much wrong with them... :Oh crap |
Bastards.
Definitely ask for your money back again. Or just tell the local news, it might go viral. ;) |
Get the Daily Record onto it, or what's that guy that does this kind of stuff in the Sunday Post called?
|
Poor little critter. Hope everything works out health wise.

What a bunch of pricks,I would file a complaint with the BBB although they don't do much
|
Thing is, if we did go ahead and get the kitten put to sleep that night, we would never have known any different.
Quite scary in a way when i think about it. Seeing it running about now the way a kitten should, yet it almost never got the chance... |
Put catnip on the tip of your cock and reap the benefits. :2 cents:
Also put some Risky Business like Ray Bans near the cats food for an added blind man bonus. I think you tend to forget that this is a fucking CAT. Who cares? Do you really have thta much compassion for something that gives less than two shits about you? I am guessing you are gay, I could be wrong. Maybe just a masculine fag. He didn't apologize because he doesn't have to. It's a fucking cat. Ride around your neighborhood, and everyplace you think they aren't fucking, they are. They are multiplying like rabbits. Now (animal) Doctors have to worry about malpractice lawsuits because of animals from morns on adult webmaster boards? Kill your fucking cat, feed it to a dog. Let the cycles of life move forward. |
I knew this blind cat once...
http://exystence.net/wp-content/uplo.../Blind-man.jpg Man, could he play the Blues! :thumbsup TIP: Buy your cat sunglasses and a harmonica and you may have an act there. :2 cents: :stoned ADG |

So basically you are raising an giant, furry cockroach. Grats! |
Blind cats can live happy lives. A friend of mine growing up had 3-4 cats at a time, and one of them was blind. he meandered about rather slowly, but eventually began to become comfortable with his surroundings. one of the elder cats would lead him around and be his eyes, almost. the cat LOVED noisy objects. his mother would give the cat paper bags to play with, and wash out potato chip bags for the blind kitten to play with. He lived a long life.
Terrible about the misdiagnosis. The previous vet should be ashamed for their misdiagnosis, and for refusing to refund your money. |
Why would a kitten be afraid of it's surroundings? I've never seen a kitten that was "afraid" or "needed more time with their mother". Usually kittens are balls of furry energy and scared of nothing.

I had a similar situation with a deaf cat, who turned out to hear better then me.

A cat raped you didn't it ? :1orglaugh Anyway, yes i do care about animals. More so than most humans who are cunts. Show and animal you'll look after it, and it's all it asks for. Humans lie, cheat, steal, etc regardless of how kind you are to them. Try telling some dog owners that their pet "doesn't give 2 shits" about them. You'll find you are very wrong! Edit: I wasn't gonna reply to a troll post but what the hell. I did get a laugh reading it! :1orglaugh |
I don't understand why putting it down would be offered as the first option when there's probably people who would happily take it and look after it for life. Maybe the vet was trying to drum up a bit more biz from you?
|
Did you pay on a credit card?
If so, charge that shit back. Shocking that they would recommend killing a perfectly fine animal. |
Also, post cute kitten pics :)
|
nice to hear your cat is fine. good on you for being smart and getting another opinion. doctors and vets dont know everything.
got potential to make a good news story the media loves shit like that great advertising for that vet - bring your animal here and we may accidentally kill it ! |
fucked up. even more fucked up if they dont pay you back. Local news loves shit like that.
|
I just got a kitten and the mice in my ceiling disappeared almost overnight! Rats and Mice have evolved to the point of when they smell cat piss they scram from the area! Bonus!

Fight for the cat, make them pay for almost killing the little fella.

Congrats for you on the second opinion and happy news.
A few years back I wanted a cat again. I had cats growing up, and always appreciated having one. We only ever owned Siamese however. I've had a chocolate, and seal point. Plus one other type, but can't recall off the top of head. But I digress.... When I went to the local animal shelter, they had a Siamese, but this cat was very stand offish. So much so, that they said that she could not pass "the kid test" and because of that, she was not even listed on their website or would be available for a standard adoption per their rules. (I had only found out because I placed an ad looking for Siamese cat) Anyway, she would not come out, and when she finally did she would sit way across the room in the corner. I had never seen a cat this stand offish to this point. All the same I said I would take her. I have experience with Siamese and figured could train her. While I only wanted one cat, this tiger kittie was very friendly and loving, so I ended up taking her also. It was a solid decision as it helped me train the Siamese. She is still very stand offish for visitors, but she is a one person cat. Which is fairly typical of a Siamese in general. All the same, whether they acknowledge my existence or not, they add some level of entertainment and joy to my daily life. Taking the two of them, and knowing I took a Siamese that would have been next to impossible for someone else to adopt made me feel good all the same. :2 cents: |
I know everyone thinks this is about cats, but its actually about trusting 'experts'. I pretty much assume that there is a high chance someone is telling me absolute bullshit whenever I'm buying a service where the seller knows more than I do and I'm unable to confirm things on my own.
It's not even because they necessarily lie (although that happens too). It's because people are just that fucking stupid, and the various human proclivities to not question themselves, to only ask questions that affirm their beliefs, etcetera. Aside from the more minor day to day idiocies like contractors, etc, I've been given nearly lawsuit worthy bad advice from more than one doctor, lawyers, specialists. And then there's mechanics and tradespeople , less so because its a little more accessible knowledge to me. I wish people who are this bad at their job would be naturally selected because it brings everyone down. When we're all speaking chinese one day we'll be thinking, why didn't we put the fucktards up against the wall and thin the herd for its own health?? |

I'm pretty damn sure it isn't even about the money to Scott now at this point, it's wondering how many past pets may have been killed needlessly because someone can't do their job properly. |
