Question for the Europeans
Some of you may have noticed that I have been documenting the 7th annual American Craft Beer Week; we have been enjoying this so much that the question has come up, is there a European version? I know there is at least one micro brewery in Rotterdam that I want to visit; but is this something I can do in Europe? Are there numerous craft breweries there or are there laws preventing it?
Thanks in advance. |
i know there is a craft beer fair in england it was on oz and james drink to Briton

Have a look for CAMRA on Google.
There are loads of 'micro' breweries here in the UK. |

We invented microbreweries before Americans nicked America from the Indians.
As said, CAMRA festivals are what you want. The one in London is maaaaaasive. |
Nice photos, i suddenly got thirsty, im goona go and drink a beer now.

There are 1000's of small brewers, mainly in the north of the continent though.
UK, Nederlands, Belgium, Germany, Czech, Northern France. Prague Beer Festival is on at the moment. Belgium and Germany have festivals throughout the summer. Spain and Italy are mainly wine, apart from the north of Spain, where cider rules. There are over 30 cider makers just in the valley I live in. Never see their stuff outside of the area. |

We were there in 2009, what a blast, nothing really beats it, to be honest nothing even comes close. |
There's always a Beer Fest somewhere in Europe. Usually in my country they put up tents, some benches, and a stage- for singers to perform - and all that directly on street between some blocks. The police usually have blocked the streets to avoid eventual car traffic and to keep from a crime or something...
Then some portable shops with beer kegs are showing - usually the sponsors of the happening. All that with the smell of chips and meatballs - something that probably some of you won't like, but that's how the things are happening in here. You drink beer, eat chips and burnt out meat you paid for and chat with friends.... Not been on such event recently, but I've heard of such fest in Germany - Berlin or something like that. They offer sausages and cabbage with the beer :-) |
Thanks for the input. So, for those you that have attended a beer fest in Europe; do the different brewers sell taster/sampler sizes; or do you have to buy a pint at a time?

It is tough to taste a lot of brews doing 1/3 pint at a time. ;)
