Is it overkill to use Wordpress for TGP?
 

I am working on a website right now using wordpress as tgp. well its not only a tgp because i will include blog onto it, banner rotation, friend list, etc..

do you think of any pros and cons about this set up?

what other functionalities would you suggest to make the website more interactive and unique?

I think if you are using WordPress as a way to showcase photos then no its not an overkill. Then again I'm bias cause I have a WordPress theme that makes your blog a TGP. I just think that if your not going to write up some huge blog post and you want to show off a photo set then its just a better way of displaying the photos.

you can always optimize WP in many ways:
- install caching plugin (w3 total cache)
- use CDN to serve all your static content (images, js, css)
- optimize server better (mysq, apache, xcache/eaccelerator...)

so it's a good platform to make even big sites, but you'll have to do more to optimize it...
the biggest problem can be MySQL but caching plugins can take care of it.
