WHat software do you use to cut mpg/avi files?
 

Hi,

What software can I use best, when I have for example

1 MPG file of 50 MB, and I wanna cut it in small pieces of 500KB to use it for galleryposting?

yeah, tmpg is good for mpegs.
to cut up AVI's or take screenshots, or to convert MPEG into AVI, I use virtual dub. great program http://www.virtualdub.org

simple dos based program:
mpegcut -n 20 filename.mpg
where 20 = the number of cuts you want

TMPGEnc will cut your Mpegs up, but it doesn't put he header on each file.

DO you mean add your own layer over the movie?

Adobe Premier is the best 100% ! :)

Mpegs have a header that tells the mediaplayer what it's playing. (mpeg,mp3) Clip one has the header, it will play fine, the rest of the clips will not play due to lack of the header. Maybe they have changed this in newer versions.

Even with premier, you still have to render your mpeg (12minutes - 1 hour a minute) then you can chop and save. I think you can rename your mpeg to an avi file, load it in premier and it will give you full contol even over titles and effects. I don't know this for sure, I just heard about it.

Adobe Premiere... It takes a while to get used to, but it'll do just about anything for you!

Cleaner 5 is good to use. If the video is too dark you can always adjust the settings before you encode to .wmv or .mpg. you can also increase the audio, etc. very good program.

Another vote for Cleaner. Killer product, well worth the money.

if you want to split MPG files, nothing works better than VCD Cutter.

most of the softwares above will fuck up the audio/video sync
