About The Whole Apple Computer Debate

Apple's are the Ivy League of computers. Some of you can't "get in". That's okay, you can go to a state school. You'll still get an education, you just won't have bragging rights. The intelligent members of society use Macs. The rest of you are still okay, just not amongst the elite.

Carry on with your bad PC self.

d-null 04-28-2012 09:24 AM

what are you talking about, any idiot can buy one :error

Apparently not. Your post seems to indicate you haven't. That's at least one idiot who can't buy one.

Sly 04-28-2012 09:25 AM

Owning an Apple sounds like becoming a Scientologist.

Congratulations to all.

didn't apple kind of abandon their desktop/notebook computer biz to focus on their handhelds, Ipod, Iphone, and Ipads?

This is the perfect comparison :). I couldn't think of a better one myself. A bunch of people who think they are getting something better because they are paying more. The OP is obviously trolling but in all seriousness. Apples are good for the newb's who think that apples are good because they cant get virus'. I hear that from a friend who is non-technical atleast 2-3 times a week when I ask them why they bought a MAC.

Donny 04-28-2012 10:15 AM

They just work. They don't cause problems. They last forever. Buying a PC is like buying a Pinto Wagon and buying a Mac is like buying something out of Robb Report (take your choice of fine auto).

Donny 04-28-2012 10:17 AM

And if I ever feel the need to slum it, all I've gotta do is restart my iMac, hold the right button, and boot into Windows 7.

Buff 04-28-2012 11:18 AM

Thousands of spammers and hackers and virus-writers thank all the morons who own PCs.

bronco67 04-28-2012 11:24 AM

Why is that most people I know who live in a MAC ecosystem do so because they only know enough to push the power button. They even admit as much to me -- "I don't know much about about computers, so a MAC and iPhone is good for me".

From my experience, its the exact opposite of what you claim.

That's not true at all. I spent most of my whole life "dealing" with PC's and Windows. Even worse, alot of that time was wasted due to things like viruses, poor performance, endless support, patches, config tweaks, on and on. It was fun sometimes, but not when I really needed to work.

Now that I've switched to Mac, I *Never* worry about any of that. It just works better. It's faster, nicer, slicker, much more quiet (no fan noise), etc. Networking is fast, easy to setup, blah blah blah. And also the workflow is just done better.

The biggest argument that I see against macs are from people who have never tried one, or ever looked into buying one. They tend to say that Macs are for "artists", graphics whizzes, video editors etc, which is true of course because tends to run programs like these better. Macs are also for coders. You can run Macs as servers, install endless libraries, and code like crazy.

You can even run Windows on a Mac in a dual-boot configuration, or best of all, you can run Windows at the exact same time as OS/X. You can have a "Windows" window open, run anything, and even drag & drop between Windows and OS/X applications. It doesn't do a choppy job of this either. It's perfect. It's super fast and seamless.

True Mac's cost more but they are very, very, worth the price. The few extra dollars you spend is easily made back in less time wasted, less headaches, etc.

Need proof? When is the last time you rebooted your PC? The last time I rebooted my Mac was 5 and a half weeks ago.

Seriously peeps - check out Mac.

DBS.US 04-28-2012 12:27 PM

I have had many PCs and my Mac just works better,:2 cents:

They are very good for "one button" users. They've done a great job of making things stupid simple. Masterful.

The trolls statement that not anyone can get one is silly even for a troll. Wal-Mart carries some Mac products. So I guess Macs are good for people of Wal-Mart. For "exclusivity" you'd point to the systems we use, which are not available at Wal-Mart, Best Buy, etc.

I have Macs, Windows, Linux and even FreeBSD machines. Best tool for the job IMHO :2 cents: They all do some things well, and other things poorly.

Strange how it always seems to be the idiot on a Mac who is trying to convince people on PCs that it is better.

An idiot on a PC is the same idiot on Mac, he's just convinced himself it is better to justify all the money that he just pissed away on a piece of hardware.

If your vag is all achey,, using a Mac might make it hurt a little less.

If you want to actually get work done, you're already running Linux.

alextokyo 04-28-2012 03:10 PM

I love what I do and have many fingers and toes in many different pies, but I've never made more money than 6-7 years ago when, for about 12 months, my main focus switched to iPods. Apple fans/users/switchers/impulse buyers/whoever set me up for life.

As a relatively young person, it's important to keep up with technology. Everyone who makes their living through the medium of technology should be reasonably competent with both Macs and PCs. It just makes sense, in the same way that man who makes his living through driving but doesn't know how to drive both automatic and manual does not belong behind the wheel. :2 cents:

I still say fuck that hipster Ubuntu shit, but unless you're a self-sustenance farmer in some 3rd world shithole, you should at least be fairly familiar with both OS X and Windows. Reading this? Get to know both. And people who make their living through porn on the Internet have NO excuse. Apple products aren't cheap and Windows users aren't all 14 year old torrent experts with a pirated OS.

Despite owning many Apple products that are a pleasure to work with and on, I still think that iPads are fucking stupid pieces of shit. :2 cents: I wish they'd just disappear, go the way of the Nintendo Virtual Boy, but it doesn't look like they'll be going anywhere soon. I can't fucking stand iPads. I detest them. Big shiny pieces of useless, unproductive shit. :2 cents: Or perhaps I'm just completely out of touch with my head stuck in the past like Paul Markham. :(

mafia_man 04-28-2012 07:21 PM

I have a MacBook Pro and a Mac Pro but I like windows.

Windows has a ton of software, games and drivers for every piece of crap hardware.

If Windows was POSIX compliant with a bash shell then I'd probably be using that and laughing all the way to the bank.

Don't even start with Linux; it's just not there yet.

$3 billion in income tax on the corporate side, then the owners pay $6 billion when they get the money, so 30% in income tax. That's after a billion in payroll taxes, franchise taxes, unemployment taxes, business personal property tax ...

Nice try, but they're doing all of the things we'd all get in trouble for doing:

Apple paid around 9.8% while WalMart paid 24%.

If they didn't want the corporation taxed and then shareholders taxed they should elected a different type of entity.

Edit, all of those other taxes you mentioned are paid BEFORE you arrive at your net. They help lower your net.

Apple computers are pretty well irrelevant in the real world. IPads, IPhones, IPods... they make a fortune. Useless, but fun and pretty.

Apple has given up on creating any useful productivity tools, and is focusing exclusively on entertainment and ease of use. Ease of use for idiots. Pretty tools of convenience. Shit, Apple turned to Intel to make their PCs useful and THAT didn't work.

That's what Apple does. They sell useless shit to fanboys and - once they're hooked - they sell the suckers their exclusive software. No different than the razor blade analogy. Once you buy our shiny handle you are stuck buying our fancy blades.

An Apple product is the handle of the razor, and they will do everything they can to sell you replacement blades. Here's your iPhone - buy more shit from our store! Their compuiters are useless. They've already sucked the Intel tit and have given up.

Very soon, Apple will phase out their over-priced and under-powered computers. The "AIR" was the pinnacle of Apple's arrogance. There is no need for Apple computers anymore. More profit in iPads and iPhones.

Apple is not about computers. They're about making money. iPhones, iPads... Their PC's are all but dead.

Can you open a terminal window, be presented with a bash shell and have a perl, cc, bash scripting, network tools, GNU tools, at your finger tips ? Do you have vi at your finger tips when you really need to code something up in a hurry ? How about X ?

When Windows becomes a real operating system you can come back and talk about getting things done.

Quote:

Kaspersky Lab last week detailed why the increasing market share of the Apple Mac means more malware on the platform. Eugene (Yevgeny) Kaspersky, co-founder and CEO of the security firm, has now gone further in statement made at the Infosecurity Europe 2012 conference.

?I think [Apple] are ten years behind Microsoft in terms of security,? Kaspersky told CBR. ?For many years I?ve been saying that from a security point of view there is no big difference between Mac and Windows. It?s always been possible to develop Mac malware, but this one was a bit different. For example it was asking questions about being installed on the system and, using vulnerabilities, it was able to get to the user mode without any alarms.?

Kaspersky is of course referring to the Flashback malware that has infected hundreds of thousands of Macs (see links below). He then reiterated what his employees and many security researchers have been saying for years: Apple needs to step up its game.

?Apple is now entering the same world as Microsoft has been in for more than 10 years: updates, security patches and so on,? Kaspersky said. ?We now expect to see more and more because cyber criminals learn from success and this was the first successful one. They will understand very soon that they have the same problems Microsoft had ten or 12 years ago. They will have to make changes in terms of the cycle of updates and so on and will be forced to invest more into their security audits for the software. That?s what Microsoft did in the past after so many incidents like Blaster and the more complicated worms that infected millions of computers in a short time. They had to do a lot of work to check the code to find mistakes and vulnerabilities. Now it?s time for Apple [to do that].?

Kaspersky, the privately-held company, produces antivirus and other computer security products. Excluding the energy sector, Kaspersky Lab is considered one of Russia?s few international business success stories. The company makes excellent security software and I have personally recommended some of its products a few times.

That being said, Kaspersky, both the man and his company, of course would benefit from a malware epidemic on the Mac. That?s important to keep in mind, while acknowledging that the numbers are indeed growing and the Mac security situation is getting worse. Just how bad it?s getting, and will get, is a matter of perspective
MACS are for newbies. There is no argument. Macs are a marketing ploy. You are paying twice as much for something that should really cost 1/2 as much. Its the same hardware as any Windows PC, running a Unix based operating system with MACs GUI. Congrats. MACs users are people who cant figure out how to use windows correctly or some kind of designers who for some reason thinks adobe is different on macs then on pcs.

From YOUR source:
Quote:

In Apple's last annual disclosure, the company listed its worldwide taxes -which includes cash taxes paid as well as deferred taxes and other charges -at $8.3 billion, an effective tax rate of almost a quarter of profits.
and that "almost a quarter of profits" doesn't include the 20% double taxation paid when earnings are distributed to the owners of the company.

Everywhere I go, there's another asshole with a Mac preaching about how much better Macs are than PCs. They regurgitate lines directly from Apple's marketing campaign, like "it just works." I have the following rebuttals to this argument:

1. If everything on a Mac just works, then why does a website called "Mac fix it" exist, assholes? Here are a few choice topics on macfixitforums.com:

-Login window stuck!
-lower caSe "S" key not working!!
-Menu bar keeps flashing
-I can't drag and drop!

Waaaah, boo hoo! I can't drag and drop! Dumbass. Looks like your Macs aren't perfect after all, which leads me to my second point:

2. Fuck you.

Maybe.... I will agree that Windows 7 is great. But really, Microsoft lost me with Vista... XP was good, fast and fairly stable but even that one was prone to dozens of headaches that I simply never have to deal with with a Mac.

Anyway, the which-machine-is-better is pointless. The best machine, is the best machine "for you".

Mac's are best for me. PC's are best for you.
