(music) nu metal still alive?

I am feeling nostalgic, I used to listen to:
limp bizkit
linkin park
korn
rage against the machine

Any new names that I should check out after 10 years? :)

Erik_ 04-25-2012 08:25 PM

They're all still around. I actually like Linkin Park. Rage is awesome, I wouldn't consider them nu-metal though.

You're pretty brave to admit you like Limp Bizkit. ; )

10 Years
Hurt
Spineshank/Silent Civillian
System of a Down
Machinehead
Killswitch Engage
Fear Factory
All That Remains
Slipknot/Stone Sour
Stabbing Westward
Mudvayne/whatever his other band is called
Tool/Perfect Circle
NIN

There are tons of great bands still out there. (I wouldn't really count Tool/PC/NIN as numetal, but eh)

\m/ ^_^ \m/ Fuck yes, Silent Civilian is superb. And of course Tool/APC, they're pretty much elite.

Can't wait to hear Spineshanks new album.

I like Spineshank way more than Silent Civilian for some reason. Didn't Spineshank's new album come out months ago? Or was that only for a single off the one to be released in June?

Not quite out yet, they just released the cover art today.

Spineshank is what got me hooked on metal. I saw them in 2001 at an Orgy show and they blew me away. I've seen them 6 or 7 times since then, they're amazing live. : D

If you're looking for some good nu metal, "Abandon All Ships" is pretty sweet -

Damn this is too heavy for me...

And I don't care much about if they are nu metal or not, just want to hear similar bands to those I mentioned :)

3$ Bill Yall was a really good album. Despite the fact that everything they released from this point didn,t appealed to me, we have to state the facts.

Stabbing Westward broke up years ago. Sucks, they were one of my favorite bands. It's funny, after their first three albums, they felt like they were being pidgeon-holed as a dark and gloomy industrial metal band. So for their fourth album, they tried to do more positive, up-lifting songs. If I remember correctly, the first single from that album was called "Happy." Album sales weren't nearly as good, and not long after the band broke up. I'm sure there were other reasons for the break-up, it's just funny how that seems to coincide with it.

I'm not sure what the rest of the band is doing, but the singer, Christopher Hall has a band called The Dreaming.

Except for rage you pretty much listened to music it was bound to dissapear.

bronco67 04-26-2012 12:44 PM

Numetal is a disgrace to metal.

garce 04-26-2012 04:01 PM

I used to listen to Ratt and Shotgun Messiah. Before that, I grew up on The Runaways, Starz and Kiss?

Any word? Any new "albums"?

bns666 04-26-2012 04:30 PM

bronco67 04-26-2012 07:55 PM

This is way too heavy for me, I do not like metal music, its pretty much the only music style I do not get. The heaviest music I listened were korn and rage agains the machine. Followed by linkin park and limp bizkit. These bands are not actual metal bands, they have their own style (does not matter how you call it) and I want to find some more current bands that play similar style.

I am very open when it comes to music styles, I like most of them, except for actual metal. I simply can not listen to it and have any pleasure doing it for some reason :)

datatank 04-28-2012 09:03 AM

That's right -- Nu Metal is not actual metal.

I have tried but just cant get into hard metal :) Bout as hard as I go is Nirvana, Faith No More, Metallica. True gen gap I think. Something you have I am missing and vice versa. :)

Choopa_Pardo 05-04-2012 01:35 PM

I don't think it's a generation gap at all. Metal has been around for decades.

Maybe I should say speed metal or death metal :) But yeah, I guess that is true to a degree altho stuff like Slayer and hard metal bands or speed metal bands are a whole lot diff than Black Sabbath or Blue Cheer.

Way more intense and heavier. Altho I used to say that about Nirvana and Metallica in the early 90s and now I can dig it so who knows maybe I will be able to rock out to it someday hehe.

[insert Beavis and Butthead doing heavy metal head movements :)]
