You have an equal access to these functions of modern western civilisation. They are your rights as a free citizen. An interesting position, demonstrating a grasp of history. Certainly many people feel that bygones should be bygones, and there is little risk in using that premise to oppose the supposition that England's class warfare has any continued relevance. But I wonder if you would apply it to some other very entrenched grievance holders, perhaps stemming from the same time range, say 150 - 70 years ago.

Its not really about how long ago the perceived slights were committed.

Germany and Japan are not pariahs of the international community. We might make jokes about "not mentioning the war", but all of the protagonists of the great conflicts of the 20th century are now fully integrated westernised industrial democracies. We see each other as equal trading partners and we do not colour our judgement because of previous conflicts.

We have a black president, we have had a women prime minister, we play cricket with South Africa. We even let Australians back into the UK to serve our beer.

But when Cherry looks at a picture he is green with envy because the photographer was born into a wealthy family. He is the same as a racist or a homophobe. All he sees is his own prejudice.

Pol Pot, Hitler, Mao, Stalin, they all relied on idiots like Cherry to be their foot soldiers.
