Discuss amongst yourselves.. He seems kinda right about that. Did we ever talk about putting Osama Bin Laden in a mental hospital? Has ANY terrorist bomber been put in a mental hospital over prison?

Anxious to prove he's not insane, confessed mass killer Anders Behring Breivik told a court Monday that questions about his mental health are part of a racist plot to discredit his extreme anti-Muslim ideology.

Mr. Breivik, who has admitted to killing 77 people in a bombing and youth camp massacre, said that no one would have asked for a psychiatric examination had he been a ?bearded jihadist.?

?But because I am a militant nationalist, I am being subjected to grave racism,? he said. ?They are trying to delegitimize everything I stand for.?

It IS an interesting argument, but then again, I would fry him just like I would fry anyone that committed mass murder.

There's no death penalty here so he will either end up in jail or a mental hospital.
That's another reason why he doesn't want to be deemed insane.

your prisons are a disgrace to the world. They are holiday camps. Don't they have to build a prison especially for him?

Any human who wants to take another human's life without a proper reason is fucking insane, period. I can see wanting to kill someone because they banged your wife. But killing people because they might be "Leftist" or whatever? Fucking insane.

Norway was approx 70 per 100,000 of its population in prison.

wouldn't it make more sense to kill the wife? either way, i am tired of all these killers getting it easy in a crazy house because they are 'not responsible' due to their 'illness'. like you said, just about anyone who kills anyone has to be crazy to some extent so why put any killers behind bars instead of mental institutions.

how about this for fucked up, a few years back here in ottawa some guy killed his whole family because he was schizo and belived he was pregnant and that the family wanted to kill the baby, so he killed all of them..mother, father, sister. he serves a few years in a mental institution, when he gets out he gets the family house and the families insurance money..because you know he wasn't responsible (eyes roll) and then flips his lid again and is arrested freaking out naked in the streets. seems the families lives were worth nothing in the eyes of the so called justice system.

Why do religious nuts of any kind use guns? If your god is so powerful, wouldn't he give you some kind of golden ray?

I don't see where it says "Thou shalt pick up a big gun and shoot frightened teenagers, and I will not suffer thee to be called the worthless coward thou shalt appear to be".

Always with these religious freaks lauding themselves for pulling a trigger on an innocent person. How did his actions hurt one of the people he supposedly hates?

While he is insane, his argument is valid.

Correct, if Breivik is found to be sane, the court could sentence him to the traditional 21-year prison sentence, the maximum term for a homicide or terror act conviction, but he must be released after serving that sentence.

But the court could also sentence Breivik under a provision called "preventive detention," which also has a maximum of 21 years but can be prolonged in five year increments after that -- which means the court can detain Breivik indefinitely after his sentence if he is found to be a continued threat to the public. Which is seriously likely.

Rehabilitation is the guiding principle, not punishment. Countries track recidivism rates differently, but even an imperfect comparison suggests the Norwegian model works. Within two years of their release, 20% of Norway's prisoners end up back in jail. In the U.K. and the U.S., the figure hovers between 50% and 60%.
