Someone using Judge Polito’s computer login and password at the Joliet courthouse has been trying to use county computers to view hardcore Internet pornography, documents obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times show. This sounds serious.

The list of porn websites was logged by Web-filtering software designed to stop county employees from wasting taxpayer time on non-work-related websites.

Whatever you’re looking at, Keller cautioned, “there are tracking mechanisms that go back to the individual user.”

They are not sure if he logged in or someone else logged in using his username/password.

It would be weird if a computer wasn't used to access pornography.

This causes a acandal of course. Kind of sad really, not to mention eye-rollingly stupid, but typical of n american culture. Fact is judges should be encouraged to keep informed about what's going on out in the world, if only to stay current with community standards of tolerance.

I have no doubt there's not much worse than, as a webmaster, getting accused of something you really don't deserve to be accused of, and going up before a judge who has no fucking clue about the internet or online culture in general, nor the general standard of tolerance.

The customs and immigration (in Canada, at least) has a unit that studies all sorts of adult video and visual materials constantly to monitor what's coming into the country and to stay current on such things as CST, etc. Why wouldn't judges be allowed to do the same?

Yes, let's have the people judging us remain closeted ill-informed half-wits who judge based solely on the "good book" and it's writings from 20 centuries ago.
