Block them on what basis? Ripping? Spamming? Stolen passes? If they are dynamic that by definition means they change, so listing them is pointless.

Block ALL dynamic IPs, 90% of the internet? It would be much more effective to just allow the few people who SHOULD have access.

Agree 100%. A whitelist is always better than a blacklist. :2 cents:

If just an average surfer you need to block for being an ass then you might try a special cookie which flags them, check for the cookie on access and then deny them access if it is there. It will work no matter if they change their IP. Anyone with a clue will figure this out and will clear the cookie but the average person doesn't have a clue and it just might help.

What about blocking a range of IP addresses instead? For example, your user comes from

4.28.42.196 sometimes, and sometimes
4.28.42.186
4.28.42.156
4.28.42.197

Can you block the range? For example 4.28.42.150 to 4.28.42.199 ? I don't know wordpress so I don't know if this is possible.

Or, can you block block using something like this format:

4.28.42.* ?

Just a thought...

You can do that with .htaccess by just leaving out the last octet:
order allow,deny
deny from 127.0.0
allow from all

:thumbsup

But don't copy and paste this and actually block 127.0.0. - that would block the server from itself.

Except dynamic IP addresses can use more than the last octet so you could find the address you are trying to block change from 12.34.56.78 to 12.34.57.78.

You can't block 2 octets because that's 65,536 addresses.
