Besides having a great voice.. he was great in Coal Miners Daughter.. and Shooter. All the Musical talent is dying off, with nothing to replace it.

What a great musician/singer he was.

I'd say of all the drummer/singers out there he and Don Henley are the best.

And his story is incredible too.

Some years back, he contracted cancer in his throat and completely lost the ability to speak. He refused to accept that and against all the doctors proclamations...regained his voice and started playing and singing again!

The last decade or so he has did a weekly "jam" in the barn at his farm in upstate New York that featured all kind of big name celebrity musical guests playing with him.

He was definitely one of the very best.

RIP this always sucks :(

Levon Helm - one of my most fave musicians of the past few decades. News of your passing this afternoon came with sadness. Awesome voice...now silenced.

Listening to "The Last Waltz" in the background tonight.
