I remember watching something on one of the educational channels like TLC, Discovery, anyway it was on humor.
They noted how fast jokes are created, and how fast they travel.
They also were able to show that jokes were created after huge events like a disaster, anything that would be noteworthy would be created almost simultaneously at different parts of the country and/or globe.
In other words while 1 guy thinks he's coming up with an original joke like the Challenger one (N.A.S.A. stands for Need Another Seven Astronauts) there were a number of other people across the country who came up with similar jokes within the same time frame. How they were able to track this stuff I don't know.
Thought it was interesting.
