What script did you use?

keysync 04-15-2012 09:57 AM

It's called image hoster.
It's a work in progress by a developer I know.
It's a real mother fucker to setup and install.

There's always a need for those but remember to create a plugin so rehosting is quick and easy.

imo once you go imgur why go back?

Imgur (pronounced imager[2] and stylized imgur) is an online image hosting service founded by Alan Schaaf. It offers free image hosting to millions of users[3] a day, serving over ninety terabytes of images daily.[4] No registration or membership is required. The company is based in San Francisco.

The service was created as a response to the usability problems encountered in similar services,[5] which the creator describes as "bloated, confusing and annoying".[6]

The website became a sensation following its rise to popularity on social news websites such as Reddit and Digg.[7] On January 10, 2010, Schaaf announced the creation of Imgur accounts, which allow users to create custom image galleries and manage their images.[8] Users can also sign in with Twitter, Google, Facebook, and Yahoo accounts.

What do you mean?

Stick some ads on there and run it, why not?

The thing about imgur is people know it can stand heavy traffic like Reddit, etc. There's really nothing wrong with it, so like others have said, why change?

Creativity is always needed. The people behind Imgur may have asked a similar question "Is there a need for more sites like photobucket?" Stay positive even when others are negative!

The pinterest style JavaScript bookmark is a nice touch on this one.

Thanks for all the supportive messages!.
I just got this finally running this week.
The real different between this an imgur is they are huge, have discussions on the pictures, have a viewable slideshow of a gallery etc.
That's probably all a good idea but my site is just simple.
We host your pictures.
If you register you have control of the titles of your pictures.
If you don't register you can still upload photos anonymously.
I think that's the beauty of it.
It's simple not a bunch of extra this or that.

I'm actually surprised after all these years that there isn't already a simple open source script that does exactly this already out there

imgur was something different. it made hosting images faster and simpler with no login or tons or bullshit ads and pop-ups.

keysync 04-15-2012 10:29 PM

Well.
I dont' have all that flashy bullshit on my site.
No ads, no pop ups, no "join with facebook" logos all over the place.
This is a project I wanted to complete and it's almost done.
If you guys have a need for such a service, please use it.
If you prefer imgur that's also cool. To each his own.
