Buy at least one domain and build on subdomains if you do not want to spend much money on many domains.

It is so difficult to count how much more money you would have earned up to to day if you had built them on your own domains/subdomains. THOUSANDS of dollars are lost.

There is none. Even if Thumblogger, Sensual Writer, Sexus, Tumblr, etc all shut down, I'm still on top huge since my total investment total to this day is around $100. :upsidedow

Listen to colmike. He knows what he is doing and talking about. He has been a great influence on me getting off my ass and building. Listen, I too started with nothing and made a sale here and there. I reinvested and tried to make more. I admit, for the time I put in I suck at this. But if I had no domains I'd have way less money. One sale pays for domain and host. It's a no brainer really. Not even something to think twice about.

Glad to hear that :winkwink: Keep building and the best part of your own domain is that you have every bit of control over it with no ads depending on hosting and you can almost always profit from selling the domain in the end if you don't feel like renewing registration anymore. :pimp

But freehosts also have a huge purpose in link building and a few other things that you just can't do with your own hosting alone. :2 cents:

Are you serious?

First - you are losing portion of revenue to that top banner which is on thumblogger blogs
Second - When you have own blogs its easier to find trades, get listed and so on (= better seo = better rankings = more money)
Third - host may shut down/cut you off.
Fourth - what if google decides to band thumblogger domain
Fifth - MIGHT be that search engines would like/prefer own hosted site vs TB site (this is just my speculation, do not take as granted)
Sixth - ??
Seventh - ?
...

You are simply leaving money on the table. And knowing aproximate mike's earnings I would say he left thousands of dollars on the table there..

1) true but not all hosts take much ad space, if at all.
2) yes some people wont trade with free hosts but many do.
3) like i said.
4) unlikely. what if google bans your own domain as well?
5) i have found the opposite. sometimes google favors some free hosts from time to time and it is easier to rank them than your own self-hosted domain.

while it is stupid to base your whole business of them they have some uses.

What happens if YOUR server fucks up and all of your blogs are lost? (unless they are backed up, of course, but is a bitch to set back up..) That is more likely to happen than TL closing down..

You can advocate whatever you want, fact is that out of the 2:
a) building your business on SOMEBODY ELSE's freehosts
b) building your business on YOUR OWN domains
The a) choice is the stupid one.

Once again two main points:
you are losing part of the money
you do not have control of YOUR WORK.
