Spot the toys you grew up with, threw out, and now are worth quite a chunk of change

those aren't serious prices.

lucas131 04-13-2012 03:09 AM

anexsia 04-13-2012 04:04 AM

I bought Suikoden 1 + 2 for $20 each and they started going for $200 each on Ebay...also had Final Fantasy 3, etc....wish I had kept a lot of my old games to sell.

Jman 04-13-2012 05:37 AM

Pffft

Those aren't toys... This is how we rolled when we where kids. Don't think they are worth much now :thumbsup

:) I like reminiscing about childhood.

PR_Glen 04-13-2012 05:56 AM

just because they are selling the shit for that much money doesn't mean they are worth that at all.. most of those are ridiculously over priced and easily available.

the internet killed that market a long time ago when people realized that they didn't make 'rare' toys from the 80's and beyond. Same thing happened with hockey/baseball cards.

Old toys and other things really have no value at all, except to the people who want them. For example, car guys will pay top dollar for a 69 Mustang or Firebird but others will just wonder why.

BIGTYMER 04-13-2012 06:46 AM

I still have most of my old toys in storage. My comic book collection is going to be worth a mint one day.

bronco67 04-13-2012 07:54 AM

I had a giant Star Wars cards collection -- some still in the wrapper. I wonder if that would be worth some money.

bronco67 04-13-2012 07:55 AM

Just checked Ebay....nope. Not worth a damn thing.

Tom_PM 04-13-2012 08:09 AM

Toys? Why in my day, we'd hurl ourselves onto rocks and we liked it, by god we loved it!

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_fObSStlFSG...py-old-man.jpg

Man, every one of those toys is way younger than I am. Hard to imagine people paying so much, but there's always someone who's got cash to burn on things they like. More power to them!

Rochard 04-13-2012 08:22 AM

In the 1970s I got a GI Joe jeep with a little trailer. Twenty years later I saw it in an antique shop for $1K.

Vendzilla 04-13-2012 08:25 AM

Bunch of pussies, this is what we had for toys

Scott McD 04-13-2012 08:54 AM

I have a small collection of boxed Star Wars figures. Not worth much really, but keeping hold of them for now anyway...

PornMD 04-13-2012 09:22 AM

Whoever paid those prices for a Game Boy and a Genesis are crazy. There are probably swap meets everywhere carrying those for like $5-$10 each. Only way I could imagine prices that high are for new in box, but still, new in box for something that sold many millions?

Sarah_Jayne 04-13-2012 09:26 AM

Okay, on that list:

- She-ra and horse
- Strawberry Shortcake Banana Twirl
- Rainbow Brite
- Teddy Ruxpin

and Jem - which I KNOW is still around at my mom's but not in the box. However, let me say that that doll was amazingly well made. All these years later and the earrings still flash when you turn them on.

I am sure most of them are still in my parent's attic but certainly not in fortune-making condition.

NaughtyRob 04-13-2012 09:36 AM

Only one that I had was the Stretch Armstrong and maybe the hot wheels. I had tons but don't remember which ones

xNetworx 04-13-2012 09:37 AM

I sold a beanie baby my girlfriend gave me back in high school for $1500. The lady I sold it to smelled it before she forked over the cash. Crazy.

MattO 04-13-2012 09:41 AM

Shit I got a bunch of those stupid Furbys in unopened boxes my mom gave me for my kids. Been sitting in the closet for years.

Lonny 04-13-2012 09:43 AM

I had a bunch of 1970's tonka trucks and match box cars which we all know
as hot wheels today.

Also had the first hot wheels single loop track that came with a single car.

as I hit my teens I tossed them out thinking it was all trash.

When I think about it I kick my self in the ass knowing what these
items are worth today.
If you had them sealed or with the original box that would be a plus.

scuba steve 04-13-2012 09:45 AM

had a ton of old metal transformers, last i looked they were worth a lot. sold them for like 15$ in high school at a garage sale :(

videobunch 04-13-2012 10:19 AM

These are like $400-$500 now and I think my entire set was like $50-$75 when I got it.

DWB 04-13-2012 10:25 AM

I had the original Star Wars collection. Every toy from Star Wars through Return Of The Jedi. My asshole step-day took them from where I was storing them and said he was cleaning out the area and threw them away. I think he sold them.

I couldn't get my hands on those or transformers those dam things were
always sold out.
Gobots was my past time I was younger in the 1980's.

uno 04-13-2012 11:29 AM

My sister and I had just about everything older than the Barney. We were both over 10 by the time that came around. I did have a bunch of furbys that i sold NIB for a ton of money at the time. It was good having a friend who worked at toys-r-us.

SexSearchSuzanne 04-13-2012 11:50 AM

Noooooo!!! My "Glory" My Little Pony is long gone, no $600 for me.

Those prices do look inaccurate though, I can't imagine someone paying that much for a Sega Genesis, I've sold them recently for less than $50, unless it comes with tons of games I can't see it being worth $1,900.

This one is listed for less than I thought it would be worth by now:

BladeZ 04-13-2012 12:00 PM

Had a huge collection dinky toys till I was 19,joined a bike club ,sold them all for a few to party. The most expensive beers and steaks I ever consumed.

shinmusashi44 04-13-2012 12:06 PM

Those prices are a total lie, that is not what any of that is worth. I deal in toys, things like Transformers and GI Joe. Those are list for a lot cause they are graded and people always ask stupid prices. And a Sega genesis in the box goes for less than $100. They only way it might go for that is if it was a first run system and the first model off the shelf. Whoever made that article has no idea that they're talking about.

So you mean to tell me that somebody really isn;t going to pay 2 million dollars for a beanie baby and trading cards :1orglaugh

porno jew 04-13-2012 01:06 PM

buzzfeed it generally full of shit and just makes crap up so it goes viral. so looks like mission accomplished.

Tom_PM 04-13-2012 01:15 PM

The oldest toys I think I still have are probably either the GI Joe footlocker, or the old HO scale model motoring batmobile, AMX #5, or AFX super 2 car (rare I think). Plus other parts and pieces in model racing. Not sure how they've survived so long.

My Garbage Pail Kid collection is worth a couple grand...seriously.

Mutt 04-14-2012 06:56 AM

read the comments - like pornojew says, Buzzfeed is just interested in viral traffic.

none of those toys are worth anywhere near those figures - i have Sega Genesis and the 8-bit Nintendo, probably worth 10-20 dollars.

one thing i do have which would be worth a lot of money is a bunch of original Hot Wheels which I hid inside a wall of the house I grew up in. I thought it would be cool to go back when i was an old man of 30 or 40 and open the wall up and there they'd be. I didn't realize that my parents would ever decide to move houses. Whoever lives there now has a wall with valuable Hot Wheels in it.

gonna go see what those Hot Wheels are worth now.

Mutt 04-14-2012 07:08 AM

not worth that much - in great condition early Hot Wheels are worth $150-500 depending on model/color
