My yearly NATS rant....
 

I have been going through my rantings over the years and it seems I am overdue for this one.

First rule of biz is 'never put all your eggs in one basket'.

How many sponsors and affiliates are doing just that?

NATS has improved so much in the last few years - I like NATS - Really.

Now imagine the worst happened - NATS goes tits up - How much of our industry will it take with it?

There are a 100 ways it could happen and plenty of people that would like to see it...

We need a GUARANTEE that this can not happen....

there is other software besides nats if you think nats being gone would have a major affect your an idiot.

Explain - What is this other software?

Of course if NATS disappeared it would have a major impact.

If you think otherwise you are the idiot.

Something else would come along just like when epassporte failed and paxum/redpass/50 other million payment companies came out. It would be a pain in the ass for this industry but life goes on.

It would make the Epass fiasco look like a 'Blip'.

Nats is just a piece of affiliate software that runs on the webmaster program's own servers.

All it does is collect stats (+ other data) in a database (also hosted on the webmaster program's server) and display the stats nicely.

They do not have anything to do with money, payouts etc.

If they would ever decide to stop the product, the programs will just continue to run until their license runs out, and then the program owners could just use another affiliate software such as mpa4

That's not true at all. The important bit runs on NATS servers.

there is ES and if nats when under there would be new programs to do the same things your an idiot if you think 1 software company going under would matter.

The scripts and databases are on the affiliate progam's own servers.

So if NATS had an issue it would be biz as usual?

We would all carry on as if nothing had happened?

If that's the case then that's great - is that the case?

all NATS clients would have to switch to another provider, easy as that...:thumbsup

I'm pretty sure you would be able to carry on as usual until the license expired. Perhaps not though - and no one but the guys at TMM can answer this because nats is (stupidly) 100% zend encoded. And I *think* when you pay each month, your license is good for the following 3 months, or something along those lines. I know we forgot to pay our nats bill once (we were on vacation and it slipped our minds) and nothing happened, we just paid both the next month.

But at the end of the day, the industry would survive. Everyone would be mad but would move on to something else and keep going.

That pretty much sums it up.

We would pick up the pieces - again.

If only somebody had seen that trusting one company with everything AGAIN was not a good idea.
