I have a Twitter generating $250,000-300,000 usd per year, how much would that be worth if I were to sell it?

Based on your nick, I'm guessing it may have something to do with dating. If you really want to know how much it's worth, you'll have to reveal some information. I used to be a bit of a heavy Twitter user, so I know a little about the platform.

Like what kind of information?

I'm guessing that the account itself has a very particular monetization route. For example, an accompanying website or identity of some sort. Would that monetization package come with the account?

No websites, just Twitter (as in I don't use websites).

It would come with every piece of knowledge I have.

If I were to sell of course. I'm looking to see how much something like this is worth if it's generating this per annum.

To answer your question, figure out the industry multiplier.
You are in dating I assume, and twitter. These are the controlling aspects of your revenue.

Twitter could die within months (MySpace) and the dating game has a new hot seller every month that turns around and goes cold.

At the very MAXIMUM I would do a multiple of 1.5 based on your uncontrollable variables.
So $375,000 to $450,000 if your current revenue is legit and everything is legal and abides by all TOS.

This is the best estimate I could provide with no other details.

Mainstream business can sell as high as 10x earnings, but obviously would be considerably less for something like this which has no solid assets. Doesn't help much, but gives you an upper ceiling anyway. Speaking from experience having a similar sounding business which I thought would end any day, ended up lasted me 10 years.

Do a search on twitter for some hot terms. You should be able to get the big picture. Of course, the guy won't share the 'secret sauce' but the big picture should give you enough info to appreciate the opportunity

Most mainstream in that revenue range sell for 3 times EBITDA if they have solid docs, proof of all taxes, some history and stand up to due diligence. For a Twitter scheme based on adult and dating that is so secret no information can be given about it, I would say 1 times earnings would be good. If the poster above who is offering 1m really wants to do that, I'd hop on it because no one else will give you that by a long shot.

Anyone care to share how they monetize Twitter?

I'll start ( for what it's worth )

Three active accounts averaging 27k followers each:


Paid Tweets:
- We get $1.25 per tweet per account
- We average just under 10 paid tweets per account per day

Twitter Traffic:
- We auto tweet every blog post, FB update etc and drive all traffic to two locations. Drives an average of 2k uniques a day to these two sites ( not a lot but it's better than nothing and it's targeted )

Direct to Sponsors:

- We schedule 5 tweets a day direct to sponsors with our ref code ( Twitter traffic does not work well for this in our experience )

Direct to products

- We schedule 5 tweets a day direct to products with our ref code ( Twitter traffic does ok for this in our experience )

So in 2011:

Paid Tweets Totaled: $13, 425
Twitter Traffic Totaled : 612,000+ uniques
Direct to Sponsors Totaled : $2,118
Direct to Products Totaled : $3,824


So.. I'll take it but would love to understand how to better monetize the followers.

What service/program do you use for the paid tweets? I have a 20k twitter accoutn and do nothing with it right now.

That's like trying to sell a car but refusing to tell anyone anything about it.
