***ALERT***Outing a programmer that steals your sites when he gets FTP
 

I created a couple other threads that were vague and mostly trying to collect info on a guy who completely ripped my databases and files from server back in 2010.

He reserved 6 domain names that exactly replicate my site (which are mainstream) and is processing through 2checkout (soon to be closed).

I just wanted to put this info. in a thread that was straight and to the point.

His paypal, paxum, 2checkout, godaddy etc. will all be frozen. He last logged in yesterday so somebody from this forum alerted him. I checked his profile prior and he had not logged in since January of this year.

I'm glad he knows he will be fucked.

I recommend anyone that has given him FTP access to perform programming tasks check your sites. Mainly, google your sites and make sure he didn't do the same to you as he did me.

Is he one of the cut-rate programmers? Sometimes, you get when you pay for, unfortunately. Sorry you got burned. Not all programmers are thieves, luckily.

When hiring a programer, ask for references that you can verify yourself. Whenever possible, worth with a programmer in your own country and insist on a written signed agreement. When providing access, make sure the FTP info is to a development server with test data only, and not a production server with production data. Under no circumstances should you allow anyone root or administrative access to your server, or allow access to other directories. When the job is finished make sure there are no other programs or scripts installed that should not be there. Demand the source code and review everything carefully where possible before making anything live, and before paying the balance.

I can only hope so... I have so many reserves now to give FTP to anybody. This is what happens Sara... so many people want to steal your stuff because you are better then them. You have done more then them... they try and take a piece...

one of my best friends fucked me over my work, that is making him money now. of course no more my friend. but most programers are like that, not all but most, they cannot do nothing else that count and write. every kid can be good at programming, but only few kids may brings some ideas. and if programmer have chance to steal, he will steal, he will and will do that, period! lesson learned :)

if you do give out ftp accounts restrict the / access to whatever domain they're working on. nobody gets root.

my programmer, as much as I might hate him, has full access now. He is also punker barbies dad... His name is chazz and has taken care of my server/bizz for 2 years

What happened before was theft... just can't believe nobody is saying they recognize name

But I have not used him for some time now ..

I've build my website to offer almost the same services as you do since I saw a potential market.

(If you question yourself that a programmer can't replicate any website then you are delusional)

I know why you are upset, you are upset because until now you didn't have any competition in that niche and that's why you are throwing stones.

But this is not how you handle competition if you want no competition then you try to acquire competition. I've taken a look in the niche and I saw companies that offer desktop software for almost the same services. Are you going to go after them as well ?

If you want my domains you can say so, maybe we can reach a deal if you want to acquire your competition.

Just take a look at tube sites, what if only one tube would have a monopoly on all traffic?
If another tube site came he would try anything in his power to acquire.
Without competition we wouldn't even have facebook.

So what you are saying is no one should trust you with any work because you will likely buy a similar name and steal their idea.

Its one thing to make a tube site but another to go for domains that represent a clients and steal a unique idea they trusted you to work on after you see them isn't it? If you are selling yourself as a developer, I would assume your clients do not expect you to be building sites like theirs for yourself. You pretty much admitted it was unique with potential to make money.

Beaner that sucks. Maybe you should add a type of privacy/NDA agreement with your contracts in the future to prevent fucked up shit like this from happening again.

Once you wrote a piece of code, its easy to write it again, and the second time you write it will be better then the first. It will also take 1/10th the original time.

The way i took it was that beaner made something unique then hired scriptguy who remade it for himself and bought a similar domain.

If I thought of pinterest and paid someone to create it online for me, and they bought ponterest and made the same exact type of site i would be a bit pissed :1orglaugh

I had a NDA, patient, trademark and a copy write and our rep company (who manufactured the taking bass) used our molds, with our boxes, with our add copy and sold it to Spenser gifts among others. $10 of thousands in legal with not a dime recovered from the manufacturer/rep company who is alive and doing well in China.

Good to out all scammers in this biz lets weed them out....be it programmers,hosting,traffic,content, a scammer is a scammer and should be marked as one.

he was hired to correct a broken contact us form on the site and to implement an email confirmation on signups...

He didn't create anything... totally stole my entire server. Now it's going to cost me thousands in attorney fees to patch all the holes in what he has done
