Anybody here ever have a YouTube video go viral?

Specifically anybody who is at least monetized if not full partnered?

How many views did it generate?

Did you get any website traffic off it? If so, what ratio of vid views to website views?

What sort of increase did you see in your earnings?

Just a few things I'm curious about.

I posted a video which got about 7-8k views in 3 days and I was sent an invitation email from youtube to apply to their partner program.

I declined since I used copyrighted music in my video as well as the fact that my video revolved around a specific event so the traffic would die down afterwards and I also had no plans to make more vids.

I hear that FPSRussia makes about 200k/year from Google and smaller channels like Hickok45 and Nutnfancy make about 100k/year... would be interesting to see what the actual numbers are...

Want to see more videos of you blowing shit up with your AK!

Pretty sure FPSRussia is making more than 200k per year.

I shot an M249 SAW mounted in a Humvee turret a couple days ago. Blew up 5lbs of Tannerite in a sandy area. It was pretty cool to see the shockwave work its way across the sand. Unfortunately, the guy shooting the video zoomed in on the Tannerite and missed most of the show.

If I ever did, I wouldn't be here. I'd be rolling piles of money, getting my dick sucked.

Pipecrew 03-29-2012 09:01 PM

Define viral. I had this one go over 600k views for filming some girl getting banged from my balcony

https://youtube.com/watch?v=kJWunnpgpQ4

Didn't see a penny cause they didn't have the program back then. Even if they did probably wouldn't have seen much either way. Dumb unplanned shit = views

You only get paid after the first million views anyways... That part of the google revshare program sucks.. But yeah I agree, its the dumb luck vids that rake it in most of the time..

Adam_M 03-29-2012 09:24 PM

Did a channel that has over 15 million views but no specific video that has gone viral

I don't think I'm qualified to put a solid number on it. I would say no less than 7 figures in a relatively short period of time.

VenusBlogger 03-29-2012 10:02 PM

Yep had many go viral in mainstream... However once you reach let's say 200,000 views, you start getting them flagged either from competition or for using 5 secs of a song of a known singer... However with those 200K views you will make sales, but it's hard to keep it up, although there are some "tricks", not secrets, but "tricks" you will learn with experience. :)

How much does the revshare pay once you hit their 1 million views requirement?

I have had two videos get over a million views and a heap in the six figures.

It did help to brand the website (channel has over 20mil views) however I could not tell you ratio of video views to website views. It was mainly about branding for me which did really well and the original website was in magazines / videos / tv.

With re to earnings increase, with youtube, I have not noticed much unless it is a huge increase in traffic. They seem to not monetise alot of the shit traffic or give you extremely shitty cpm rates.

To be perfectly honest, I think the money youtube pays is a fucking joke and have wasted far too many hours in the money that has been earnt from the channel.

That is bullshit from my experience.

EDIT

That is complete, total and utter bullshit.

EDIT x 2

When you become a youtube partner ALL your videos are part of the program form ZERO views. Instead of spreading misinformation, how about getting a clue about what you are talking about...

I have a video coming up on 4 million views.

Google "this cop does his job"

Made 600 the 1st month and still makes close to 400 each month.

Not bad :}

Your video title is misleading.

Cop never got dudes ID or registration. Never asked him to walk a line, no breathalyzer, no touch the tip of your nose with your finger, etc.. He even pulled the guy out of harms way from the flow of traffic. What cops does that?

The only cop like thing he did is yell at the dude to do something he knew the guy couldn't do. Obviously he was looking for an excuse to shoot the poor man. :winkwink:

moeloubani 03-31-2012 05:27 PM

charlie bit my finger is the second most watched youtube video and made about $500k for the family that posted it since it came out

That's it? I would think you would make tens of thousands for 4 million views.

porno jew 03-31-2012 06:30 PM

just farting into a bullhorn.

porno jew 03-31-2012 06:31 PM

so the biggest video on youtube made 100,000 k a year. seems kind of cheap to me.

I have 4 YouTube channels. I started the first one about 2 years ago and the other three within the last year. All of them are monetized and when I average the numbers out, it works out to roughly $1875.00 per 1 million views. I've heard a few people say it should be around 2k per million.

Not sure where you would get the impression that 4 million views is worth 10's of thousands.

Ditto. Have a couple street racing videos filmed by me that have 50k+ each, got the whole youtube email and all that, I wasn't promoting shit in the description or anything so I can't comment on that but still I haven't seen any 'income' from youtube worth paying attention to.

I know a few guys who are under a network through curse.com. They get 3$/cpm

It's always the misleading titles that get the views tho.

I tried :winkwink:
