One time cash payout minus taxes will make it $250M but I'm happy when I win $2 on a $1 ticket so that would rock! :pimp

With that amount of cash, who cares about the tax?

See sig if you wanna be a megamillions/euromillions/superena/etc affiliate ;)

dancent 03-28-2012 05:04 AM

Players from Europe are welcome,i would give a try :) ?

raymor 03-28-2012 05:08 AM

This happens only every ten years or so. The odds of winning are one in 175 million. To win 250 million, it's actually a "good bet" mathematically. Normally I say "idiot tax" like DamianJ, but this week I might put $10 into a pool.
Anyone want to do a GFY pool? No rent money allowed - spend only what you're happy to spend for the entertainment.

Tax is 50%, payout is about half, so actual value of "$476 million" is about $120 million.

Tax is 30% capital gains, and in NJ no state tax on lottery winnings. I don't consider it a tax any more than laying 5 bucks down on the blackjack table, or placing a bet on a horse race. I had 2 tickets for last night and will have 2 tickets for Friady.

The mistake a lot of people make is to keep buying more tickets as the jackpots rise, I did that for a long time. But the difference in odds of winning do not change if you buy 2 or 200, so I spend a cup of coffee on the drawing, have "won" a few thousand over the years, down long term for sure. But what the hell, someone wins, might as well have that 1:200 million chance.

Cash option is 341.4 million so 235 plus in the bank for 1 winner.

You won't win.

He's too busy posting on JBM asking for tubes to submit content too after posting for years that free porn has ruined the industry to come back here now.

Seems NJ does have a state tax in this case. Maybe it's NJ lotto that is exempted (I have no idea).

FL? You mean Florida?
Why don't you play it if you're in Florida?
Isn't it a US wide lottery game?
Anyway, take a look at it, perhaps you want to play ;D

Tom_PM 03-30-2012 11:57 AM

You could make ends meet with that. Normally I'd say take it in annual installments, but that's high enough to just play with it in a big pile.

Waiter 03-30-2012 12:02 PM

$476 million ... damn ...

The lady has a pool at her work. She asked if she should go in. I'm like you have to when it's that big of a prize. There is no way you don't want to be the one person that wasn't in on it for the 1 in 2390482309482 chance they win. That's a tough one to get over. I handed her 10 bucks this morning when she left for work.

When it gets to this amount I always toss a couple bucks at it too.

sperbonzo 03-30-2012 12:23 PM

and just think! 650 million could keep the federal government going for about an hour!!

You can check out your individual state there if you like.

Tax Information

3% state withholding tax on lottery winnings in excess of $10,000
25% federal tax

shake 03-30-2012 12:31 PM

Got the winning numbers here, but I'm in Canada so I can't play :(

Also they are the winning numbers from last time...

beerptrol 03-30-2012 12:34 PM

yep I read they with hold 25% federal tax but you get thrown into the 35% bracket and must pay the other 10% when you file your taxes. some lady won a few million and blew it all and didn't pay the 10% she owed and was thrown in prison for tax evasion and a few other things

first thing I would do is talk to a financial advisor and tax attorney to get my ducks in a row

KillerK 03-30-2012 04:21 PM

If nobody hits it tonight, I bet it his 1 billion on Tuesday.
