Google to start penalizing over optimized sites...

Linky here

About time google started going after people who focused more on optimization vs actual quality content.

Fap 03-18-2012 07:26 PM

I'm assuming this is mostly for linkfarmers

Dirty F 03-18-2012 07:33 PM

This is a great move.

porno jew 03-18-2012 07:34 PM

has always been penalized.

Relentless 03-18-2012 07:45 PM

Quality content has always been step one of SEO....
It ultimately determines organic time on site, bounce rate, etc

This memo is all just more bullshit spewed by Google to 'scare people' into optimizing their sites less.
There continues to be no money in SEO ;)

listening to the sxsw panel. basically time on site and social sharing are increasingly important signals. nothing really new here.

BradBreakfast 03-18-2012 08:18 PM

They need to penalize those "Questions Answered" content farms.

I mean not the news article, that's current, but google has been penalizing "over optimized" sites for years...

DamageX 03-18-2012 10:02 PM

You mean I can no longer do keyword stuffing successfully? :(

porno jew 03-18-2012 10:06 PM

yeah pretty mind blowing keyword stuffing and link exchanges are going to be blown out of the water.

I actually find those very useful.

cherrylula 03-19-2012 04:35 AM

Every little bit helps.

B.Barnato 03-19-2012 04:35 AM

Luckily all my sites are under optimized.

Nicky 03-19-2012 04:42 AM

Ok. I'm starting a new service. SED = Search Engine De-optimization (had to do sed instead of sedo for abvious reasons :P)

Get your site de-optimized today!

u-Bob 03-19-2012 04:44 AM

That will only hurt the ones that think they are doing seo instead of actually doing seo.

shimmy2 03-19-2012 05:02 AM

penalizing, that just sounds funny

digitalfantasies 03-19-2012 06:42 AM

so will google think you are keyword stuffing if the content actually matches the keywords so as a result you use some words a lot... I mean, where do they draw the line...

Depends, if you really want me to go hardcore on It and even do dirty SED tricks like removing the meta title etc It can get expensive. :pimp

That is just it. Let's say each thing they add like this has a 3% false positive rate and snags some innocent sites along with the bad. Each time they add something like this it increases the chance that a good non optimized site is going to get caught up in it. Soon then ironically the only people ranking well are those who make their sites specifically for Google. All those engineers and no one with common sense. Try to reward sites which appear natural. Do not penalize.

Google reads GFY for pointers.

That's standard Google Operating Procedure. Not bad ultimately, however it depends on what constitutes "over optimization", which remains to be seen.... and when if ever they're going to implement this versus or just keep announcing it, and whether they'll just start weighing content versus anchored text links...

Who knows, with thagrate Google... ?

:D

Rochard 03-19-2012 01:26 PM

I'm to the point now where I just put up a website and don't even both to try to play games with link trades. Just ignore everything else and put it up there and see if it works. So far, it seems so.

ruff 03-19-2012 01:26 PM
