So I am watching 'Clockwork Orange' again....
And I still do not get it.....
Perhaps I should try watching it sober - but I think it might be even worse. I met Kubrick once when I was very young - (If you are good I will tell you that story one day) - Its a shame I had not seen the film then - I could have asked him what the fuck it was all about. Anyway, back to the film - Alex is about to get his kit off again.... |
Never seen it still.. is it worth watching?
|
Awesome movie and really not that hard to understand.
|
great movie. what is not to get?
|
Maybe I am trying to read too much into it and missing the point. Maybe it is a film about crime, retribution and and an attempt at rehabilitation. I don't think so though.
Its funny how many referances I see in other films and even music that comes later. |
Cool/weird movie.

|
Up for a bit of the ultra violence?

Or did you mean it was crap and you would not watch such shit again? |
It's based on an old book http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Clockwork_Orange I remember by parents use to have it laying around when I was a kid. It has an entire glossary where you can understand what they are talking about.
Kubrick is perhaps my favorite director but I admit this is not his best movie, not even close. |
book is great a s well. rare situation where both the movie and book are great works of art. different - and better - ending in the book though.
|
great movie better book If you dont get it Im sorry for you, you must be a product of the public education here in the US.

My hat's off to anyone that can make it through this. I've seen some sick stuff in my short life so far, but there's just something about this movie that makes me so uncomfortable. I know that's part of how they want it to be....but damn. I've tried to watch it twice. I think I'm good without seeing the whole thing. If anything I should probably just try the book lol
|
not sure why it would be hard to understand
|
The writer, Anthony Burgess was a great commentator on the times. The film spoke to the end of the baby boomers and the gen x crowd because it chronicles the decline of western civilization so well that was part of our experience. It made total sense while experiencing the total shit that Ronald Reagan and his buddy Thatcher were.
It may not speak to you because we are now living in the time where the movie is actually more relevant than ever. We are living the movie now. To me, Full Metal Jacket was much more violent and disturbing... |

You should hold on to the end...and then have a vodka tonic. |
I thought it was quite good myself, maybe not worth the hype and the British ban (yeah, i know it was a self-imposed ban) but still a good movie and, indeed not a difficult movie to understand.
Part of the film was recorded in the town i'm in fact fans! |
Also never seen it yet. Not sure I even want to watch it however.
|
Brilliant fucking movie, timely - ahead of its time, important even more so today than when he made it...
|
One of the greatest movies of all time. Definitely one of my favorite violent movies.
|
You gotta remember for the year it was made too, 1971 it was pretty cutting edge and super modern, both stylistically and technologically.
By today's standards it's really neither ,technologically dated and stylistically just wierd - like anything "artsy" from the 70's (or any decade) and so we are forced to try to appreciate it purely for the message and social commentary, which makes it quite a different experience now than it was "then" when hipsters could just groove on all the trendy polyester and hi tech music and ignore everything else. |
Haven't watched...

Being the adventures of a young man whose principal interests are rape, ultra-violence and Beethoven
Perfect explanation |
Some friends of mine wrote a script about Kubrick and the Moon Landing Hoax. Should make for a good flick if we can get it made.
|
One of my all-time favorite, brilliant movie and yes; way ahead of its time
|
One of my favorites. The woven tapestry of words and images create a unique movie that is as much art as it is entertainment. It's supposed to be disturbing and on different levels. It creates a loathsome character and turns into almost a hero of sorts.
|
It's on my must-see list for so many years...

by todays standards the violence isn't as big of a deal. As social commentary it still holds up as a great one, one of the top ten Libertarian themed movies of all time in my opinion. it also helped establish Kubrick as an American Master |
I didn't find it that disturbing, really. Plus, it isn't THAT violent - it tends to be sporadic scenes rather than constant.
It is a fantastic film, though. |
You just can't beat the scene where he beats the lady to death with the giant penis sculpture.
