Passenger seat flew out, truck ran over the driver seat.

Yep, he died.

baryl 03-16-2012 05:59 PM

How do people just happen to be filming? Are there people out there that just randomly film hours and hours of uneventful driving just in case something happens?

Do a lot of people have dash cams these days? I didn't know that was a thing.
Carry on I guess.

epitome 03-16-2012 06:12 PM

I was out an hour ago and saw a half dozen cop cars blocking a major road here. Then I saw the mangled crotch rocket and the car that hit it. We do not have a helmet law. I hope that guy was wearing his.

Scott McD 03-16-2012 07:43 PM

Holy fuck! That impact was just unreal.

AllAboutCams 03-16-2012 07:59 PM

should have got a NCAP 5

eroticsexxx 03-16-2012 08:22 PM

So much for thinking that a big SUV is safer to drive.

Yes, many people have them. I will have one soon, too.

They're important for establishing liability in an accident. Here in the Bay Area, there are a lot of people who should not be driving. There are a lot of situations where the person causes an accident will try to put the blame on you. Lots of lunatics out there.

It's quite important to have video IMO.

rowan 03-17-2012 01:01 AM

Here's one good reason to have a dash cam. If you hit someone's rear it's usually your fault, right? Not in this case... :)

They were probably going to claim big $ for what was a fairly little tap, then fix their vehicle cheaply and pocket the difference.

Tsharp23 03-17-2012 01:20 AM

Becareful when you drive. I just saw a motorcycle accident earlier today. Turns out that some guy clipped a bike because he just plain didn't see him.... hope he can still walk... he flew pretty far.. Accidents can really put a turn on your life so drive safely and carefully...

LouiseLloyd 03-17-2012 01:24 AM

If you replay the second of impact over and over I think you can actually see the driver been thrown through the air!?

Needless to say that's put me right of my breakfast.

astronaut x 03-17-2012 01:37 AM

wow. that's fucking sad.

astronaut x 03-17-2012 01:40 AM

dashcams must be all the rage in eastern europe and russia

you gotta love the background music.

I have one front and one rear for insurance purposes. Can't trust Japs, fucking little liars. Since I've been fucked up the ass twice while waiting at a red light, there won't be a 3rd time.

Well... there probably will, but the cameras will show who was at fault.

It does look like the driver either was speeding or lost concentration, and ended up on part of the road that had the build up of snow...

so does it dump the HD every time you restart the car? is a a manual re-set? hold 50 hours etc... how does it work? be cool if the cam recorded speed as well for bullshit tickets and red light crap

Ones sold as a black box type dashcam do a 6 hour loop overwriting itself on a 4gb card, or it can be triggered by harsh acceleration / harsh braking / impact and record a 30 second burst. can usually do speed, position, overlay on google maps for playback.

DWB 03-17-2012 11:58 AM

Just... wow. That car exploded like it was made out of legos.

So much for airbags and safety crumple zones.
