Can you be "almost" a vegitarian?

I love meat so much - I could live on raw chunks of steak and bacon sandwiches.....

However I hate the killing and the factory farming.

It seems you cant just be a vegitarian that only eats meat rarely - I mean if I avoided meat most of the time and just had it, for example, if somebody offered it at a dinner party.

I just know I would be called a hypocite by people from both sides.

OK - Ignore the question - I am never eating meat again. Don't even want to anymore! :Oh crap

shake 03-15-2012 02:39 PM

Don't worry about what other people think. If you want to eat meat less often, and maybe choose only free range animals then do it :thumbsup

The meat will taste better, and you'll probably be a lot healthier by eating proper amounts of meat (say only a few times a week)

BS. Moderation is the best way to consume all food types especially meat.

CurrentlySober 03-15-2012 02:40 PM

If I were to say that once in a blue moon, I took the tip of a cock in my mouth and sucked it... BUT NEVER TOOK IT UP THE ASS ON A REGULAR BASIS.. Would that make me gay?

As for other peoples opinions on your meat consumption (or Lack Of) Why would you give a fuck?

Seriously, and with genuine respect - As a proud out gay man - Surely you have a thicker skin than that?

baryl 03-15-2012 02:41 PM

I don't know why people have to take sides and define themselves over what they eat.
Just eat what feels right to you.

I'm not a vegetarian but I generally prefer a lot of vegetarian-type foods. I'll also tear into a steak if I want to.

Tom_PM 03-15-2012 02:42 PM

There are ova-vegetarians, who have eggs. Lacto-vegetarians, who have dairy. And you're in luck, there's a phrase for you. Flexitarian, used to describe those who are primarily vegetarian who occasionally eat meat. Consider yourself cataloged and searchable!

Jajaja. :thumbsup

I've been a Lacto-vegetarian my whole life! And it is quite offensive when someone says I'm almost vegetarian. Try it for 22 years. Then get back to me ;)

Thats true - I should be able to deal with people who don't approve of my lifestyle by now.

"Flexitarion" - That makes me feel better - I will have a title....

Its strange how that works.

SykkBoy 03-15-2012 03:05 PM

I'm a meat eater, but we've started doing 2-3 meatless meals per week. On meatless nights, we'll sub in some legumes, tofu, mushrooms, etc.

I don't care what anyone calls it, I'm with you on the factory farming issues and also eating less meat to stay healthier.

wehateporn 03-15-2012 03:08 PM

Having been brought up on meat, enjoying the taste, but feeling uncomfortable about where it came from, eventually I forced myself through some videos from abattoir's; I've never eaten meat since that day

You could go hunting or raise your own animals. Or buy meat from hunters or local small farmers. This way the animals would live a happy life before you eat them, unlike in the big farms.

baddog 03-15-2012 03:21 PM

People might suggest I am almost a vegetarian, but I am far from it, IMO.

Tom_PM 03-15-2012 03:26 PM

I enjoy the occasional pig, cow or poultry meat. Definitely not every day, more like once a week or less. Prefer it organically raised without hormones and all that good stuff, but with labeling being primarily marketing it's hard to get it.

asdasd 03-15-2012 03:32 PM

I eat birds and fish mostly as well as the occasional sea insect.
Duck, fowl, chicken, tuna, salmon, squid etc..

AdultRev 03-15-2012 03:40 PM

Try not to label yourself too much. Just eat what you eat!

If you only eat meat occasionally, just say you only eat meat occasionally. You don't have to label yourself 100%, might end up just feeling guilty in the end.

Absolutely... I'm sat here listening to The Smiths, and thinking fuck it ! life is TOO SHORT... So just be who you are - Do what makes you happy - As long as you dont hurt others - Knock yourself out!

Imagine being on your death bed, thinking I'd love one more Steak Meal before I die... But I'm too ill to eat it... Perhaps I should have eaten a few more while I was younger, but I didnt cause OTHER PEOPLE DISSAPROVED... So I didnt...

Now its too late... :(

THATS THE REAL SHAME...

mineistaken 03-15-2012 03:52 PM

Its just a figure of speech, who cares what would that be called? Call yourself "non vegetarian who enjoys being vegetarian most of the time" if you have the need to actually name it. I mean who cares how would you name it. Almost vegetarian sounds like a good name too.

Baddog what do you eat on a typical day.. What's a regular stay at home breakfast lunch dinner and snacks for you?

PS: OP, you won't be allowed into the vegetarian club until you can at least spell it right. This much, I can promise.

CDSmith 03-15-2012 04:07 PM

I'll admit it, I'm openly a full-blown meatatarian.

Don't judge.

I have it in the exact same way.
I don't know where you live, but there's farms almost all over that sells meat (more expensive obviously) from animals which were treated well.

No way this is becoming the norm. Being aware yet still liking meat is the best way to be if you are a meat eater.

Just try to get local, period.

Bdog, do you do any smoothies? Juicing is great but you're throwing out all that really good fiber. Smoothies give you all the goodness of juicing but you also get the fiber ; )

We have a good juicer so we get lots of fiber, and top off juicing with lots of veggies in our normal diet.

If you think eating less meat is a better choice, that's your decicion and not hypocrisy. If you think factory meat is wrong, but still eat it sometimes, that's not hypocrisy either by definition, maybe some kind of laziness though.

It's a bit like saying that I don't think piracy is right nor should be legal, but I might sometimes grab a song from megaupload or etc. because it's the easiest way.

I went on a raw food diet a few years ago in solidarity with my daughter in her adventure. That was a very tough diet and not really my style. That is not to say there were not some very interesting side effects (like my acid reflux leaving, never to return). I would go back on it for short bursts if I wanted some weight loss, but my new diet is definitely a lifestyle I can live with and the pounds just slide off.

there is no such things like "almost" for the facts. Either you are or you are not vegan.
Vegans should not eat any animal products and sub products - that includes - milk or butter.
So almost in our case should mean that the person prefer eating some certain products, and avoids the rest... Not a vegetarian to me.

They should be paying me a commission: http://www.williams-sonoma.com/produ...ice-extractor/

1200w of pure power (which means more juice and drier pulp)
Easy to use
Easy to clean

It costs a little more but you will save $$ in the long run as you will use less produce and get more juice and it won't break on you.

Indeed they should be paying you for all the advertising and photos you have online.
You are making everyone healthier :)
Do you still remember how to chew food or no ?
Thanks for the info, I want to buy one.
