Yahoo strategy: If you can't BEAT them, SUE them?

Yahoo's recent lawsuit against FB echoes its lawsuit against pre-IPO Google. The truth is Yahoo is a goldmine--its operators just don't know it.

Anyhoo, check out how the lawsuit issue pans out http://socialmediatoday.com/software...-beatem-sue-em

Saw this on mashable yesterday.. wonder how it will play out

WiredGuy 03-13-2012 04:53 PM

The last time Yahoo did this to Google, they settled out of court 10 days before their IPO. I'm willing to bet Facebook will settle with Yahoo too. Probably for nothing more than a bunch of pre-ipo shares. It doesn't matter if they win or lose, so long as it has merit, it'll make investors weary and affect their stock price. Great strategy for Yahoo despite how wrong I think it is.

That's not a Yahoo strategy, that's an Apple strategy. Actually they sue anything that gets in their way.

What are their technical arguments?

eroticsexxx 03-14-2012 07:49 AM

This has turned me off of Yahoo completely.

The new CEO is using this as a money grab because he knows that Yahoo is struggling financially. Desperation is not pretty and the backlash from the tech community, despite strong dislike of facebook in some segments, will finish off Yahoo. Former programmers of the company are beginning to speak out against this new tactic and are embarrassed by it.

No one likes a patent troll.

Yahoo was able to get money from Google because their PPC model applied to search engines. This is not so clear cut in regards to social networking. And that is just one of the patent challenges being filed against FB.

Yang would never have done something like this. Hopefully Microsoft will step in to stop this madness as they are connected to both companies and can use their patent portfolio as leverage to prevent Yahoo from going down a road that they may not recover from.

My response isn't in defense of Facebook. I have two other growing businesses in the tech industry.

Patent trolling is killing innovation amongst smaller companies because of the legal hurdles that one has to jump through to release their product to the market.

Imagine coming up with a new, successful website only to be slapped with a lawsuit out of the blue because the way that your users interact with each other, click on pictures, login or some other feature is patented.

It's getting ridiculous nowadays.

I am not alone in my analysis of the situation.

Given the fact that Yahoo has failed at almost anything and everything they've ever developed or bought... I don't see them succeeding at anything including suing facebook. I certainly don't see their company improving in the coming years and surviving with a strategy of patent trolling.

what's that yahoo everybody is talking about?
