Newbie Looking For Your Advice!
Hi All!
I have just recently warmed to the idea of running my own adult site. I would preferably like to run a subscription site, but I have no idea where to start. Do I a need any kind of special hosting? Do I need an autoresponder? Is it possible to run a subscription site with outsourced/paid content? Where can I get good, solid content(video)? What is the basic set up for a subscription site? (I've never subscribed to a paid porn site) What platform is best (Wordpress, html etc.) Sorry about the million questions, but as you can tell I'm new to this and need just about all the help on offer lol! Thanks in advance. Jim |

do you have any experience in the adult market? Jumping into the pool and starting off with a paysite is a bad Idea IMHO. I'd start off working on blogs and other forms of free sites in the niche you'd eventually want to open a paysite with. You'd gain marketing experience and would build up your own traffic source while gaining valuable knowledge about the niche and the online industry. You may even decide not to open a paysite

Before you start with a big project... You need to be crystal clear with its marketing and promotion. Take that into consideration... :)

Is it not possible to do a subscription site? I would rather have something that affiliates would happily promote and drive traffic to, than do it myself.
I would rather concentrate on the running of the site than boring myself to death with SEO etc. no offence to the SEO folk, it's just not my cuppa tea. Plus, I am piss poor with SEO! I have been involved in internet marketing before and I know a lot ways to market, it's just that I am new to the adult industry and wanted to know if things are done differently somehow, like how sites are run. I'm guessing adult blogging would involve SEO again. I don't mind making mistakes and learning as I go, so I don't have a problem with a big task, as long as it isn't boring. Again, no offence, it's just a matter of personal preference. I guess I should have been more specific with my questions. Does anyone have a subscription based site that can give some ideas? Or that I could chat to? |
Welcome to GFY. Once you figure out what direction you are going to take these ideas, hit me up and lets talk about your hosting needs for them.

Keep costs low, start with simple hosting and get up a few blogs to learn from and adjust to the game. See for yourself what tools you'd want as an affiliate when you are promoting other's programs. See what they offer affiliates, what conditions, payment alternatives, holding periods for earned commissions and so on. Replicate what you find is working and change the thing which would you a better alternative.
Get yourself some of the best hosting around, at http://www.amerinoc.com/104.html and start with maybe a shared plan or a small reseller account and start up a handful, 5-10 blogs to get your feet wet. |

start small, build your way up. On the plus side if you start building blogs now you could start small blogs around the target niche or market that you plan on creating a subscription site for later on. Then once you get to the point where you begin to setup your subscription site you can use the juice from your blogs that you created when you were first starting out to boost your new site. But +1 for amerinoc:thumbsup |
either way...
There's really no way around having to do SEO and traffic generation, even if you have an affiliate program and your own content and billing. You are saving yourself a lot of pain and suffering by starting with the promotion of other programs or content that can be billed out through a third party, (a la clips 4 sale or something like that) or some way of downscaling the problem of running a paysite out the gate.
A lot of people insist AVS is dead, but this seems a viable way to upsell some content without going whole-hog on your own, starting something that can be expanded. Do a lot of reading, learn the back end of wordpress like you know your own genitals, ha, and I believe the best way to balance the tedium of building sites and blogs is to start with a niche you like and think you know, or a subniche so weird you just have to learn about it. |

Okay you guys have convinced me that blogs are the best way to start. You's say start with 5-10 blogs. Should these all in one niche, closely related niches or spread out over really different niches?
Does .com matter or can I do well with .net .org .info .co.uk etc.? Should I use opt-in forms right from the beginning too or at all? So many questions floating around my head? Thanks again |
welcome to the party :thumbsup:thumbsup

My advice on blogs here are still valid today and would help get you started with some kind of outline of what to do:

Do I a need any kind of special hosting? -> you needa hosting that allows adult sites, a cheap one to start is a shared one like HostGator
Do I need an autoresponder? -> why? lol do you have an office and go on vacation oftenly? you need at least an email account (provided by your hosting) like [email protected] Is it possible to run a subscription site with outsourced/paid content? -> yep Where can I get good, solid content(video)? -> depends on your business: tube sites, download video sites, video webcam sites... If you want to success try to do genuine stuff What is the basic set up for a subscription site? (I've never subscribed to a paid porn site) -> like 4 usd a month What platform is best (Wordpress, html etc.) -> depends on your idea you would need one script or other -> Sincerelly, I'd say you are too newbie to start with this business :winkwink: |
