Thanks...it has been decades since I have even seen that photo. We were all young. I still stay in contact with a few of the guys I served with back in my Navy days. Some great people.

Our squadron was dubbed the Rubber Duckies because of the RD on our aircraft tail (the P-3C was a submarine chaser - I think they are all decommissioned now).

Lykos 03-12-2012 10:34 AM

Nope,never liked the army...

DWB 03-12-2012 10:42 AM

Come from a family of Marines. I almost went in myself to try to join the Marine Corps Band but decided to go to music school instead. Mostly because of my uncle, a Marine, who told me not to do it because they would brainwash me and he wanted to see me in school instead, which everyone can see clearly paid off.

No regrets though because a year later Operation Desert Storm started and in the event I didn't make the band, I very well may have been over there. No thanks.

sperbonzo 03-12-2012 10:45 AM

3 years, First as an artillery crewmember, then as a forward observer/advance party in Desert Storm.

2 Battalion, 18th Field Artillery, 212 Brigade, 18th Airborne Corp (attached)

I actually went in when I was 28 years old, but I was really gung ho, and I made rank quick. From E2 I got out as an E4 after 3 years.

Played with G.I. Joes on an active duty schedule for 5 years, then re-enlisted briefly when I was 14 or 15 for another 6 months before losing most of their guns and other accessories.

Why couldn't you do both? I did four years in the Marines, got out, got two college degrees.

Shedevils 03-12-2012 02:21 PM

Echo Battery, 7th Field Artillery, 10th Mountain Division. Which is also 18th Airborne Corp. Desert Storm was winding down when I got out of AIT and they had stopped sending troops over so I missed it, which I had volunteered for.

Crewmember on a M198 Howitzer. Which we never took anywhere when we deployed.

Was QRF in Mogadishu and Port Au Prince. Did air assault, jungle warfare school, combat lifesaver, some other schools, and a couple other deployments before I reenlisted for Air Traffic Control and spent a year in South Korea. Volunteered for Bosnia but they wouldnt let me out of my assignment in Korea because of a shortage of air traffic control personnel. I liked combat deployments, and the medals that came with them.

Goldmaniacs 03-12-2012 03:31 PM
