thoughts on pro vs amateur content production.

I'm not talking about the 'look' here, I'm talking about 'content production... I remember the last poll on who to select for content producer of the year... most of the guys on the list weren't even pulling down 40K gross a year from content...

how in the fuck can someone like that be even considered for content producer of the year???

do you think there should be a 'gross' cut off that spits the pros out from the hobbyist, like a 100K gross? lets make these mother fuckers WORK for that award is all I'm saying....

would vote some jerk off webmaster with a crappy tubes and some traffic that pulling down $80 a week as webmaster of the year because he's a cool guy on GFY??

like to hear some thoughts...

Like a tax return based contest?

MaDalton 03-09-2012 07:29 AM

i think everyone is entitled to try to make a living the way he can do best - without violating any laws.

and the GFY awards are not the Oscars ;)

Eldon Hoke 03-09-2012 07:42 AM

Award ceremonies (especially in adult) are just circle jerks. :2 cents:

el doche it weird having a job where a guys his dick out anyway, just imagine if that happened at the back

Paul Markham 03-09-2012 08:18 AM

Where do I start? :1orglaugh

Brian a lot of sponsors as you know buy purely on price. A lot of shooters simply are not able to do anything but compete on price. And a lot of the threads here from people putting up girls and all the replies "she's hot" when she's clearly not. Or "Great shot" which refers to him having a kick ass camera and able to pull one shot out of 100 to spam here. Not that he's any good at shooting.

Plus the incessant posting of pictures when it's videos that sell a site.

Make any award for a shooter irrelevant.

Only $100k, why so low? :1orglaugh

Do you feel threatened by amacontent's comeback?

Babaganoosh 03-09-2012 08:42 AM

The award was "Web Producer of the Year" and not "Highest Grossing Producer of the Year." Are you suggesting a new category? If so do you really believe that gross income is the one and only measure of success?

I'm suggesting that a guy producing 40k year isn't really a pro content producer per say, make 2 categories pro and am... pretty sure I said that in the post??? anyway it was pointed out to me the award has nothing to do with production.. it's a bro award...

kinda like i usually have shot the 'new comer of the year' about 2 years before they get the award... avn, xbiz etc are really clueless it seems

Which would be fine if any of the clowns posting these pictures could shoot that level.

I've shot some drop dead gorgeous girls who sucked on video. And some plain girls who rocked on video. We all aim to get both to the top. But life isn't that sweet.

The fact that sponsors will choose a girl for someone to shoot video of on the basis of a picture, maybe not taken by him, is a joke. A joke confined to online I think. :winkwink:

They should make it like the Special Olympics, so that everyone is a winner. Maybe Theo can create a category just for you... :upsidedow

Congrats to the winners! :thumbsup

I don't think you can put a dollar figure on it in terms of how much you make from selling it to clients. One reason is because high end content obviously would cost more than cheap homemade content. So without it selling at the same rate, using dollars is flawed. Two guys may sell the exact same amounts of sets/scenes, but one shooting higher end content will make more money because it sells for more.

These days the only difference is those who do it for a living and those who do it for extra cash. Either way, they both make money.

Who is more successful as a "content producer" would ultimately be decided by how well his content sells to MEMBERS. Not clients. Not dollars earned by selling the content to clients.

The real winner is who OWNS the content. He who OWNS the content and maximizes every avenue to sell it, is the ultimate winner. The producer is just a vehicle to get that content to the guy who's going to make the real bucks from it.

I rub one out to photos 95% of the time. If I do it, there are millions of guys just like me who do the same.

That other 5% is to incredibly amateur (an authentic) boyfriend/girlfriend footage. Shot on a phone or a crappy cam, it doesn't matter. It just has to look authentic.

Ding ding ding. We've got a winner folks.

My first thought, and I didn't read everyone elses comments, is how do you know just how much others make? Sometimes perception is incorrect.

I accepted your award on your behalf and left it at Subway for you. It's sitting next to the cookie rack.
