Beavis and butthead

i didn't know it was cancelled because of a fire :helpme

The mother of a 5-year-old boy who started a fire that killed his younger sister blames the MTV cartoon "Beavis and Butt-head" for promoting burning as fun, a fire official said on Friday.

"When you take a child in the formative years and you get these cartoon characters saying it's fun to play with fire," said Fire Chief Harold Sigler, "this is going to stick in that kid's mind and it's going to be with him for a long time."

The "Beavis and Butt-head" feature portrays two teen-age cartoon characters who comment on music videos and spend time burning and destroying things.

The 5-year-old, Austin Messner, watched a segment in which the characters said fire was fun, Chief Sigler said, and, "according to the mother, right after that she caught him playing with matches." Boy Set Bed on Fire

The mother, Darcy Burk, was concerned enough that she took the boy's bedroom door off the hinges so that she could watch him more closely, the fire chief said. :Oh crap

It has an age rating for a reason.

Who lets a 5 year old watch that stuff?

i dont get it :helpme i watched the roadrunner and he hit the guy on the head with a hammer and it was comedy gold. I didnt go around hitting people on the head. its bullshit! :2 cents:

Better cancel all movies with car chase scenes, just in case a 5 yr old sees it and gets the urge to drive. Yet another example of a shitty parent blaming TV for not being the great "babysitter" its supposed to be and exposing their shitty parenting skills.

NaughtyVisions 03-08-2012 09:49 AM

Isn't that old, like from it's first run? If I remember correctly, it wasn't canceled because of that, but Beavis stopped saying, "Fire! Fire! Fire!" after that incident. Also, if I remember correctly, it was later found that the household (I think it was a trailer home), didn't even have cable, so the kid wouldn't have even seen Beavis & Butthead. Basically, the mom used it as a scapegoat for her shitty parenting.

MarkDeus 03-08-2012 09:51 AM

again, the root of all evil is bad parenting. But try to tell that to adults...

adultsitecms 03-08-2012 11:07 AM

The Mom is such a shit.

My thoughts exactly. Mtv in general isn't toddler friendly - Maybe this was a 16 & pregnant mom.

Allegations of promoting dangerous behaviorEarly installments gave them a juvenile obsession with fire and dangerous behavior (summed up with Beavis' chant of "Fire! Fire!"). The show was blamed for a two-year-old's death which occurred in Moraine, Ohio in October 1993 in which a five-year-old boy set fire to his mother's mobile home, killing his two year old sister.[15] The mother later claimed that her son had watched one of the fire-related segments shortly before he burned down the home,[15] although, according to an article in the March 24, 1994 issue of Rolling Stone, neighbors claimed that the family did not have cable television.

Blame the tv not whoever left matches laying around.

J. Falcon 03-08-2012 03:22 PM

Lol! Bad parents who can't accept the fact that they fail as parents and blame others.

I was going to say that story is at least 15 years old.

Exactly what I was thinking. What kind of a parent lets a 5 year old watch Beavis and Butthead or even MTV for that matter. The kid did his younger sister a favor by killing her because who wants to be raised by a mother like that:disgust

EliteWebmaster 11-23-2012 01:48 AM

Beavis and Butthead was tame compared to today's Family Guy or even South Park

Back when Beavis & Butthead was ACTUALLY new...none of that shit happened, or none that I heard of...so, an incident such as this, as tragic as it is...can't be more than a "one shot deal" type incident...
Now, if hundreds of incidents like this happened, especially back in the early 90'2 when B&B were new...then that's another story...
but, as many above in this thread had said...5 y/o's are NOT the target audience for a show like B&B!
:P

Choopa_Pardo 11-23-2012 08:43 AM

Best show.

Scott McD 11-23-2012 09:39 AM

So they didn't actually see the show then. So she lied to police to cover up yhe fact she was a shit parent. And the fact she used such a lie really does show how guilty she was and she knew it.

Why was she not jailed? Or was she?
