Copyright...dam

I have a massive collection of pictures and movies of girls wearing brief panties (been posting in the newsgroups for years) would love to turn it into a site (no necessarily a paysite) but maybe a site with some banners.....so how do I get around the copyright infringement?

and..does anyone have some good TGP or website templates?

Mutt 02-08-2003 06:56 AM

how do you get around copyrights? find whoever owns all those photos and movies and ask them for permission or pay them.

there is no way around copyright, it's up to you if you want to risk getting sued. Many people in this biz do it and make big money doing it.

KRL 02-08-2003 06:59 AM

It would be virtually impossible to track down the owners if you have a huge collection.

You might just want to keep them where they came from and put some layered text links in your newsgroup posts.

Sounds like you're telling him to go a head and rip off content until he gets a C&D letter.. Not the brightest move.

Just saying there are a lot of companies profiting from copyright infringements.

Look at this site for example. They have been around for years and have a huge membership. Do they pay for any of this content? Nope, not one penny.

learn to read Mr. Copyright Infringer.

i told him it's his decision to be a thief or not, just like it was your decision to lease out streams of the best selling video titles belonging to JM Productions without their permission.

Without trying to hurt your or JM's feelings, if i was going to rip-off content and resell it i would have NOT USED JM feeds. While JM does have some decent niche stuff they do not nearly have the amount of content needed to do what i am trying to do.

I would much have rathered have VCA or VIVID before i would even consider JM's titles. They're just not that good. Get off your high horse.

Now when it comes to why they were on the site, that has been explained numerous times in multiple threads. Sure they were not supposed to be there and they were removed right away without so much as making a dent in the amount of content we have online.

You would be using stolen content, bottom line. Good way to start off in the biz. :thefinger

Use my content and I will have a cease and desist letter sent. Ignore it and I will sue you and everyone connected to you making money from it. :BangBang:

They get around it, they told me, because the newsgroups are immune from copyright infringement for the reason that they, like the phone company, are "just like a wire" that data passes through, and like the phone company, are not responsible for how people use the wire.

This sounds like a bogus argument to me, because they select certain posts (the ones with photos) and put them up, but that is what they told me.

Pictureview even posts pics from some of the "pedo" categories, and I'm amazed they're still in business.

It is a bogus arguement. I am surprised pictureview hasn't been sued, yet, although you never know what happens behind closed doors.

Als Scan sued Remarq (supernews) and won quite easily. There are not too many newsfeed providers carrying the alsscan newsgroups anymore, or playboy etc. amongst others.

I think if someone really laid into pictureview, a lawsuit could be won. Alsscan did it to a company that probably dwarfs pictureview. Would cost a lot of money, though.

I see people post entire sites to the news groups. Now thanks the ALS Scan, if you contact them about the copyrighted pics, they will take them down because they know they can be held resonsible. It could be a full time job try to keep everything out of the news groups.

I am just curious how many people actually take the time to register their copyrights, if you do not you lose out on punitive damages . . . so pay the gov't you $30 and register your content :thumbsup

It would be a full time job, correct. Usenet is just one big copyright violation. But, Als Scan proves, that if you have the coin, you can stop the flow to a trickle.

Whooooo.....OK I'll keep my collection safe on Cd's in a vault.

The building of the regular site is going well.

Sites that automatically take photos off USENET for viewing are doing nothing illegal. They are merely a binary newsgroup viewing service. They are needed because many ISP's don't carry these groups.

And saying they are in the wrong just because they eliminate non-binary posts doesn't make sense. Heck, even with AOL you can block non-binary posts. Does this mean someone should sue AOL over this?
