Questions for you shooters Canon 3Ti

I just picked up a Canon 3ti with standard lens. What accessories should I get? I would like to purchase a grip for the camera. I don't think buying the Canon grip is necessary as it's 100 bucks more expensive than the others.

You don't need any accessories. You do need something other than the standard Kit lens.

Definitely pick up the 50mm 1.8 for about $100, for starters.

Great lens but the build quality is abysmal.

If you want to invest in some good lens that will last a lifetime, look at the Canon L series.

I would get a grip only if your shooting a lot of vertical shots or a lot of shots without time to change batteries.

I strap is a pretty easy thing to pick up. I hated the one that came with mine.

I got one of these from my kids for something a while back and love it.

I was gonna say get a prime lens or 50mm especially if you are doing portraits. and I see 2 others already posted so that must be sound advice.

What exactly does this prime lens do?

SmutHammer 03-06-2012 10:51 PM

first thing you should get is a memory card. but serious, you have what you need for now. Just go out use natural light and practice.

get the canon 1.8 50mm prime lens - good stuff

if u have $325 to spend get the 1.4 50mm prime - even better.

"Cowboy rig" is a good/super cheap shoulder mount - when u are ready to do video with it.

Magic Lantern firmware rocks also.

If you are getting a grip, try them out first, before you buy. Not all are equal. Yeah you save a shit load on non Canon makes but subtle differences might make you want to bin it.

It might not be a nice secure fit to the camera body, shutter release might not be as responsive, different dimensions might restrict easy tripod mounting when using a lens mount.

1.4 50mm prime lens - there are two local guys selling this lens on craigslist. I googled last night and it seems the 1.4 is much better than the 1.8 due to the amount of light it lets in.
