WTF @ Google........

Seriously... non working captcha prompts for standard searches now?

I mean, really?

WTF.

Worst part is.. the fucking captcha doesn't even work...

LOL

WiredGuy 02-28-2012 12:43 PM

Google's captcha's require you to be perfect on every letter. It can take a lot of tries before getting it.

Dirty F 02-28-2012 12:47 PM

Are you using a proxy or something?

vdbucks 02-28-2012 12:47 PM

Guess it's time to find a new search provider :(

How's Bing doing these days?

No way in hell I'm going to waste several minutes on every search through google trying to figure out what their broke ass captcha image says...

You can use AOL search. Its Google's results, but a little less restricted on the captcha's. Limited to only 500 results though.

So this whole captcha shit isn't something new? First time I've ever seen it for standard search engine stuff was today.. and I always enter the captcha code exactly as shown but it never takes... Quite a shitty system imho.

anexsia 02-28-2012 12:57 PM

I'm not seeing this captcha...

I never used to until literally 30 minutes ago... I do use a vpn but I've used it for years and never had this problem.. Now every time I try to use google I get hit with a captcha prompt that doesn't work :(

awxm 02-28-2012 12:59 PM

Its very common for extremely precise query strings and for frequent searches. If you're getting into a loop where you keep getting denied even though you think your entering the captcha perfectly, try opening a different browser and trying again. I don't know why, but it seems to work. Might be a local cookie thats temporarily banned you. I've had that happen too.

Edit: By different browser, I mean a different brand browser like Opera or Chrome instead of IE/Firefox. Not just another session.

Chrome is my primary browser.. guess I'll have to install fire(crap)fox again... ugh

bigluv 02-28-2012 01:05 PM

You don't get a captcha prompt unless you are triggering their anti-bot routines.

Klen 02-28-2012 01:06 PM

I was getting captcha when i was doing a lot of searches, normal thing there.

That's just it.. I can't possibly be triggering it.. So far I've only searched for "yoko theme" and "wp tube theme" to get urls for other threads here...

Using firefox netted the same result so maybe it's my vpn server.. I'll change to a different one and see if that helps...

Thanks, can I send you some urls you could possible have your team move up a few positions on Google? Would really appreciate it.

vdbucks 02-28-2012 02:00 PM

Anyway.. it was the vpn server I was connected to...

rowan 02-28-2012 04:45 PM

I've been using Google with tor for a year or two and I was used to the captchas, but then they switched from the more conventional post form system to AJAX, and after all that it went downhill. You click on Search and half the time nothing happens... no status update saying it's connecting, nothing changes on the screen, absolutely nothing happens. If I'm lucky I get a captcha, but in the past few months it just gets stuck in a loop, repeatedly posting new captchas, that I solve, but it never lets me through.

It's totally hit and miss (more miss) with G now. This is why I switched to predominantly using bing for searches.

seeandsee 02-28-2012 05:27 PM

Never saw a captcha on google search

papill0n 02-28-2012 07:08 PM

It really is... The final straw for me was a few versions back.. v 6 or 7, I for get now.. when it started crashing my nvidia drivers. And they have yet to fix it in even the latest version.

porno jew 02-28-2012 08:58 PM

stop spamming google. the end.

baddog 02-28-2012 09:02 PM

Never seen it and I do a lot of bulk searching. At least I thought it was a lot, you guys must go nuts to set off an anti-bot application.

Jakez 02-28-2012 09:05 PM

Not seeing a captcha. And supremely doubt they would switch to making people type a captcha in order to search.

Most likely it.

Jacob[Soft] 02-28-2012 10:03 PM

AS you can see google's catcha has 2 words, the second word usually contains non-english lettes, symbols etc. Just be sure that you enter right english letters. It works

hony 02-28-2012 10:49 PM

Ah the blessings of a dynamic IP -- when I get this (If I've been doing something like site:xxyz.com a hundred times) then I just disconnect and come back with a new IP! :-)

uno 02-28-2012 10:52 PM

I get warnings for suspicious activity for mass opening cache pages all the time. :(

asdasd 02-28-2012 11:09 PM

The more black hat you go with them the more anal retentive they get.

V_RocKs 02-28-2012 11:26 PM

captchas are awesome...

Remember how Google was putting old books on the internet? Well, many of the captchas you see are actually from those books. OCR couldn't give it a 99% lock so it went to captcha. 10,000 entered what they thought they saw and Google got the little bit of text decoded...

You are all Google bots!

The "unknown" word in most recaptcha boxes I get presented with is not an english word, which makes things more difficult... it's both visually distorted and an unfamiliar word, so it sometimes takes me a couple of goes.

FWIW, Google's search captchas are a different thing, they're not recaptcha.

recaptcha is also a mini google analytics, sets a cookie so it can track you across any pages which use that service.
