techies - .mts file question

My .mts files (filmed on sony) from 2009 won't open with Vegas 11. Does anyone know a good FREE way to convert them or update them?

Pinanacle studio.

Vegas should open them too but go with pinnacle.
It can be a real hassle to get mts editted. Lemme know if you need help.

did you import the files correctly? mts files end up being m2ts after being imported with the Sony tools that come with their cams

V_RocKs 02-28-2012 12:00 PM

Yes.. don't use that format...

They stayed MTS files but they seem to contain no information about themselves. If they changed to m2ts they have the same extension. Any way to check?

I am trying to download it now - yeah, Vegas should, but doesn't. Not super happy with that product.

+1 for Pinnacle. I've used it for many years.

sorry, dont know exactly what you mean...

we just went through that with 2 Sony cams, you can't use the files directly from the memory cards (sometimes they work, sometimes not), you have to use the Sony import tools.

for example on the cards there are no files bigger than 2gb, only by importing correctly they get joined properly. otherwise the second file of those split files will not work.

and while the files on the cards are mts files, after importing they became m2ts. at least in our case with 2 cams and 2 different import tools.

we use Vegas 11 and the imported m2ts files work fine

AVCHD Upshift will take care of it. It's not free but it's really cheap.

I had the exact same problem.

we imported them again - but in our case it was not a big drama cause we noticed very quickly and recorded simultaniously to memory card and SSD drive (which we hadn't deleted yet)

if you dont have the folder structure with the other info files etc anymore you cant do that i guess

you might try the tools recommended in this thread - sorry

Handbrake does a nice job but you have to select Decomb to remove the interlace lines.

SpicyM 02-28-2012 01:17 PM

I used MTS 2 Xvid to convert them to xvid, here ya go:

Thanks - trying it now

Also try Free AVCHD converter:

Did the job as well, but for some reason I preferred the first one, probably because of the deinterlace function and speed.
