Paypal have told Smashwords that they can't sell any indie books with rape, bestiality, and one of the biggest sellers on the market - incest.

All the indie authors on the web forums I go to are all 'chicken-little' about the situation, while I'm sat there thinking that I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner. Hasn't this been in Paypal's T&Cs for years?

Well, hopefully, Smashwords can hook up with folks at CCBill or Paxum...

seriously i'm not aware of the laws of your countries, but if something is legal, it is illegal to forbid it..

That's the point I've been trying to make to these authors...that it's not censorship, it's a business choice, and one that anyone who deals with adult material should have seen coming from a mile away...

I'm just a bit confused as to why Paypal hasn't made the same decision with eBay.

So in your country if somebody wants to bring a fifth of jack in a grocery store and drink it while shopping since drinking is legal, nobody can stop them? Of course not. Companies are free to set their own rules.

Once again the internet generation shows their ignorance. Instead of reading rape books maybe they should read up on what censorship actually is instead of crying wolf all the time.

Apparently they are all for internet freedom until a company decides to exercise it's own freedom in a way they don't like, then they call it censorship.

Personally, I don't think Paypal should ban anything that is legal. But they can do whatever they want as long as they don't base it on race, religion, ethnicity, or any other protected class.
