I for one shall welcome the next google

I do not like when one controls so much... When bing came I loled but now realize... We need competition for google.

I hope someone can dethrone them one day tbh...

CurrentlySober 02-24-2012 05:27 AM

I *might* welcome the next google...

HOWEVER -If it turns up at my house at 2 in the morning, refuses to wipe its feet, then decides not only that it wants to smoke, but that it dont wanna use an ashtray either...

Then FUCK IT...

It will be out my door, straight away ! :2 cents: :thumbsup

BIGTYMER 02-24-2012 05:27 AM

I agree. It's sickening. They have their paws in just about everything.

redwhiteandblue 02-24-2012 05:41 AM

Be careful what you wish for. Back along, everyone was moaning that Microsoft was too powerful.

This is a good point, I suspect most companies in Google's position would be a lot more ruthless and nasty

no one company should control so much of the internets organic traffic now they are reaching into privacy as a depth unheard of by companies of the past. The info they gather is astounding, im not worried, but they will not go away easily.

the problem isnt their power, its how many millions it will take to educate them (surfers) of an alternative.

I dont think google will be pushed aside for a very long time, its simply too big now.

and my thoughts are no surfers will be switching for a very very long time, so while the more internet savvy may use the new se, most surfers will just know google and will be the only thing they use.

I remember searching on hotbot and can only imagine google is not the last search engine.

I read this yesterday, good article on the problem with the way Google search is headed:

I love google. use it all the time. howevever, not being able to see a need for diversity and competition in something as vast as the internet is not something i lack.

google is great, so thats it, we should never try to make anything better or have any competition because people like google?

i don't see anything ever topping google in the near future. they've cornered the SE market and have an unlimited budget ;[. bing won't come up. they already got caught for scraping google results. yahoo is dead... bring back askjeeves hahah????

porno jew 02-24-2012 10:55 AM

it's called facebook. where people find information based on recommendations from friends. like how the internet originally was, before google put itself as the middle man.

Shotsie 02-24-2012 11:03 AM

They just hired a former congresswomen to lobby for them in Washington. Blatant government collusion.

Quote:

Molinari joins Google from Susan Molinari Strategies, a government affairs consulting firm. When Molinari represented Staten Island in Congress from 1990 to 1997, she was elected to the House GOP majority leadership, making her the highest ranking Republican woman in Congress.

Former Sen. John Sununu, who overlapped with Molinari in the House, said in a phone interview that she is ?quick and sharp? and will be a big asset to Google.
?The Google office in Washington has not had someone with the visibility of a former member of Congress, and with her understanding of the complexities of the legislative process,? Sununu said, ?Google is receiving a higher level of scrutiny. ... When you?re such a large and growing company, you have to have a strong, visible, capable leader in Washington.?

There seems to be a very strong tendency to monopoly on the Internet, Amazon, Google, facebook.

This does present very big dangers.

I don't think amazon is approaching monopoly power. There are still probably millions of websites to order from. They just created the best service and people prefer that.

small thinking there.. yahoo still has a huge market, lots of market capital and zero debt. With the right ceo they can make a decent come back, especially if google privacy backlash continues to grow.

My biggest problem with them is the quality of the searches has gone down in order to sell more ads.

Personalized search results are the dumbest thing ever. It's like going into a library and all the books that aren't related to books you have already read have been removed. Isn't the whole point of the internet to access new information from all around the world, not just things I have already shown an interest in?

Of course, they do this not to improve search results, but to improve ad relevancy, but they tell everyone it's so they can improve your search experience. It's all bullshit to sell more ads targeted to you at the expense of restricting information you are searching for.

Google is not a search engine anymore, it's an advertising company that looks for the best ways to manipulate search results so they can serve you more targeted ads and charge their advertisers more money.

Emphasis mine. This is because Google is predominantly a data mining company moreso than a search engine company.

Ditto.

Right now some group is plotting and planning to overthrow the king. I hope they can.

asdasd 02-24-2012 02:55 PM

If you want to know what will overtake google it is the power being returned to the people. :thumbsup

There now doing false positive spam filtering like AOL used to.

They are really close to shooting themselves in the foot. I'm close myself to start hating the company I have loved for a decade.

But you can't love a company that gets too big to care about what's right.

FlowerKid 02-25-2012 02:12 AM

One day the GOOGLE disappear the same as Altavista in the old days. I hope this day comes soon.
