GFY Data Recovery Experts: HELP!!!

I have a windows laptop that was dropped, messing up the hard drive. The drive was not readable when rebooting. Immediately removed the hard drive and placed it in an enclosure and placed a fresh hard drive in the laptop with a fresh install. New hard drive worked fine.

The drive contents on the dropped drive could NOT be read on a pc. It mounted fine and read on a Mac. Unfortunately he vast majority of the data could not be copied off the drive.

The drive was sent to (2) different professional recovery companies in California. The first company wasn't able to get much off of it. The 2nd did a better job. But quite a few of the videos and photo content recovered is "scrambled" (half of the photo unaligned with a color shift and the videos with heavily pixel-ted during part of clip).

Any suggestions on companies that can recover ANYTHING from a drive like this? Or how to handle the corrupted files?

TIA

IBAS / KROLL is a company used by many police enforcement agencies around the world when in dire need to rescue just about anything or bring back stuff that has been overwritten.

Most likely the second company did all that can be done. The heads probably struck the platters. That said, you can try imaging the drive backwards with dd_rescue. Doing it backwards defeats the OS buffering in a way that can often restore more data.

For future reference, you were right not to try to fix the drive. Next time, don't even try to read it - image it first thing. Mounting it on Mac wrote to the drive, potentially losing data.

Thanks guys, and those that hit me on icq. Keep 'em coming. Especially something that deals with unscrambling the clips

DriveSavers Data Recovery

Not cheap, but worth it if you need to recover the data.

Good luck! :thumbsup

The physical arms inside the hard drive probably hit the platters, scratching the media and ruining data. There's a good chance you won't be able to recover the data or unscramble the clips.

Best of luck, but I don't see much hope if two different recovery companies weren't able to save your data.
