Watched a REALLY disturning movies a few nights ago...

Dead Ringers

I can't even begin to explain how twisted and perverse this movie is. If you're looking for something disturbing to add to your collection and haven't seen this oldie by David Cronenberg with Jeremy Irons playing identical twin gynecologists. I can't really say I liked it, but I can't say I didn't either. Very weird shit.

I got interested in this director and downloaded another of his older Movies. I saw M Butterfly, with the same actor, and also very strange.

If the new crap bores you and you don't mind watching something 20 + years old, these are recommendable. Has anyone seen his horror masterpiece The Brood? I downloaded it but I'm not sure if I'm preprepared to watch it lol.

True dat. Although it's not horror, I enjoyed "Spider" immensely. Ralph Fiennes is a wonder to watch. As for disturbing films, the French made some solid movies in the genre. "Haute tension", "A l'interieur", "Frontier(s)", "La Horde".

But the one that most impressed me was "Martyrs".

That movie is a whole bucket of fucked up. You'll either love it or hate it.

If you want to see some classic Cronenberg, watch Videodrome or Scanners.

I was just checking his IMDB page. I forgot he did The Fly and Dead Zone also. If you look at some of his more recent movies, like Eastern Promises and A History of Violence, his work seems so different from what it used to be.

porno jew 02-20-2012 08:57 PM

cronenberg's first two non-commercial art films are online now and worth a watch. same themes and preoccupations as all his movies.

stereo and crimes of the future.

facialfreak 02-21-2012 12:02 AM

Cronenberg is Canadian, and is also one of my favorite producers

Crash was another great Cronenberg flick - about people who get sexually charged from car crashes ...

You've never seen Dead Ringers? It's a Canadian classic, and very disturbing for sure. What's cool is that it's disturbing without gore.

And who could forget RABID? In case you forget, it starred porn star Marylyn Chambers in a non adult role, who stabbed people with a cock-like thing that came out of her armpit. Cronnenberg: he so crazy.

I likes Scanners and Videodrome, but these are rather dated now. Some good borror and gore but they don't have the same whallop they once did.

Very good rating and Irons is in it! Definitely worths a try.

seeandsee 02-21-2012 06:42 AM

I will give it a shot!

Martyrs is good movie, but last 1/3 of movie is nothing special

MrBottomTooth 02-21-2012 09:48 AM

I remember watching Naked Lunch when I was a teenager and just being confused. Some trippy shit.

CurrentlySober 02-21-2012 09:51 AM

I personally found THIS disturbing - Due to the CHICKENS... :2 cents:

porno jew 02-21-2012 11:25 AM

Yes - The Brood is spooky/scary in a classic sense, and disturbing in a Cronenberg sense...

You won't forget it once you've seen it, and some parts will come back to you in flashes at weird times. Like, twenty years later, too...

Oliver Reed is excellent, and the woman who plays the mother was just creepy.

Excellent.

PR_Glen 02-21-2012 11:42 AM

cronenberg is overrated... noteworthy but hardly a genius. I really liked the history of violence though, he took a break from the alien trippy schlock he normally puts out and kept it within planet earth for once.

Norman Jewison has done far better stuff overall.

Great movie. Boxing Helena comes to mind also....

Original Theatrical Trailer for this '93 sultry & shocking tale of obsessive love, that is infamous for it's casting issue's, that saw original female lead MADONNA pull out, then saw her replacement KIM BASINGER follow suit & pull-out at the last minute! (only to be sued & bankrupted by the production.

I haven't seen Videodrome yet, but it's definitely on my list to see after this fucking hilarious YTMND.

PornMD 02-21-2012 11:07 PM

As for Cronenberg, I haven't seen most of the movies people have mentioned but I have seen A History of Violence, which is awesome and I'd recommend it to anyone.

dgraves 02-21-2012 11:56 PM

try watching some PETA fur videos. those are some of the most disturbing images i've seen. how the fuck can any sane person pull the fur off an animal while it's still alive. an eye for an eye comes to my mind.

lagwagon 02-22-2012 03:56 AM

Hmmm no one mentions eXistenZ, movie is great. :)

uno 02-22-2012 05:27 AM
