Swankdollars Laurel Hertz is in a Century Bike Ride for Leukemia and Lymphoma...
I got a note today that Laurel Hertz is participating in a Century Bike Ride (June 3rd, 2012 in Lake Tahoe) to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's fight against Leukemia, Hodgkin's Disease, Lymphoma, and Myeloma. These diseases strike all age groups, economic levels and races of our community. Many breakthroughs have happened, but a lot of research and testing is still required to finally put an end to these blood related cancers.
My own personal experience goes back to 2000 when i was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and to 2001 when i received a bone marrow and blood cell transplant. Im so very fortunate to still be here 12 years later. New treatments, including genetically altering a patients T-cells to kill cancer cells look promising and if successful could also be used in treating other types of cancers. Please check out Laurel's webpage, read about the dedication of the Team In Training participants and if you can, please make a donation... http://pages.teamintraining.org/los/ambbr12/lhertzf7sr All of us that have, or have had one of the above diseases, really appreciate your support. Thanks for the support! This is my 3rd time around with TeamInTraining. My first round was training for a marathon, 2nd event was a triathlon, and this event is a century. I'm getting older, plus trying to shed the baby weight so training for a century is the best thing for me. Here's a pic of the baby, he's 4 months now.

I rode 28 miles on Saturday and learned that I HATE my bike! It's time for a new bike I think. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm thinking about getting a Giant. I just may ride my junky bike to the bike store and look for something faster. :) |
Great Event. Very nice!!

Way to get into a killer post-maternity shape |
I just wanted to give out a quick thanks and shout out to all who have donated!
Mitchell - Acid Rain Ramos Boneprone and Shemp :) Unfortunately, I have to pull out of this event. Last Monday night my back was killing me so I took a Norco. Then at 3am the baby was crying and perhaps, I sprung out of the bed so quickly I may have sprained my ankle. Then I got dizzy passed out (probably from the Norco) and hit my head on the bathtub and then broke my ankle. You would think I could of at least broke my ankle cycling, but that's not the case. So I doubt my ankle would be better by the time of the event. So unfortunately, I have to quit. :( I will say that if anyone is interested in training for a century, marathon, or triathlon, they should check out Team In Training. They are a great bunch of people that help you achieve your goals and it's for a great cause! Thanks again everyone for your support! xoxo, laurel |
