It's funny that people have to theorize about why people should or shouldn't get paid in the digital economy.

Or musicians, software makers, movie makers, game makers, and so on. People would steal shoes if they could download them.

It has NOTHING to do with liking the person you could steal from. You either steal or you don't, and the reason you don't can range from not being able to steal it to wanting a higher quality version than what you can get for free (that's why I prefer to buy music and movies). But liking the person who created it... that just sounds like some shit a pirate would say to justify their actions.

Chronicles of Narnia was one of the most pirated films last year. People must have really hated those child actors so they pirated the movie to send them a message to straighten up and fly right.

Amazing that no one likes asking for references or sample pictures before deciding to hire anyone. Like them or not - it's business and the employers job to make sure the person you're looking to hire CAN do the job to your standards. If not then it's your fault not theirs for doing a crappy job. Pay them and move on unless you have it written in the contract.
