AT&T Throttling 'unlimited' plans.

I got hit with it aswell...i use 2-4gb of data month strictly from streaming sirius and email usage.

I guess that puts me in the top 5%

When i got my at&t contract it was truly unlimited without throttling or a cap. I wonder if I can cancel my contract now without penalty ...

I'd love to see what my data usage it like. I use strictly wifi when I'm at the house, but often tether my phone to my laptop/tablet when I'm out and about.

bronco67 02-13-2012 08:38 AM

I thought i was a heavy user, but my data so far this month (according to phone readout) is 753MB -- and I think that's the highest I've seen yet. After Verizon dropped the unlimited plans, I still have mine because I was grandfathered in. I still can't find enough things to do on my phone that cause data usage to be exceedingly high. I don't watch movies or TV on it, and my mp3s are local.

Companies advertise the hell out of the awesome capabilities to stream whole movies and direct all of your stock portfolios while surfing the web and selecting groceries online. They never get to the part where it all gets throttled to 2400 baud if you actually DO those things daily.

Slick 02-13-2012 08:42 AM

It's stupid how companies like that can play around with things to fuck you over like that, so technically you are unlimited, but it's gonna be a very slow unlimited once you hit a certain level. I'm with Verizon and I'm sure they'll start doing the same thing.

Rochard 02-13-2012 08:45 AM

They need to stop bitching and build their network out quicker.

I'm with Verizon and not a big data user. I do text messages, and read the news when I'm bored, but that's about it.

candyflip 02-13-2012 08:47 AM

Thankfully, Sprint is still truly unlimited. For now.

bronco67 02-13-2012 08:50 AM

Does anyone else kind of feel networks should be limited? Or at least people should pay for the amount of bandwidth they use. Some think bandwidth is unlimited, but it sure as hell isn't -- at least yet. I don't like the idea of paying for the 10 people who want to download the entire internet every month.

Horny Dude 02-13-2012 09:03 AM

Great another reason to hate AT&T. I have the unlimited, but I never hit over 1.5GB a month. I'm mostly on WIFI when using my iPhone for heavy use.

MrBottomTooth 02-13-2012 09:14 AM

I'm on an old unlimited grandfathered plan from Bell. Let's just say I am taking full advantage of it.

ottopottomouse 02-13-2012 09:58 AM

I got told I was in the top 1% and using 80x the average and could I slow down a bit.

fuck off. advertise 'truly unlimited with no FUP' and serves you right if you make a loss on some users. :disgust

i doubt I use that much in a whole year of my house internet. What the hell could you possibly be doing on your phone? This goes back to what I was saying?

Why should I be paying for people who use 100 times more than me?

Sorry I wasn't paying attention. That is my home internet usage.

The last time I checked my cell phone bandwidth it was never more than 2 GB a month, and I use it a lot to monitor my home security cameras, which takes up most of the bandwidth.

I agree

they should offer more reasonable choices though, like 10 gigs for $40 and then $4 a gig for overages

should really be the same for home cable internet too, just cheaper but charged by the gig

I think it would also limit piracy. I doubt some kid will ask his mom to pay more for the cable bill because he needs every season of Dr Who.

PornHustler 02-13-2012 01:12 PM

I have sprint and its unlimited so I started to tether my laptop. Its actually faster than the wifi at some hotels I have been to. Havent used 4G yet but 3G is fast enough.
