People on bikes are douchebags

They want to ride on the road, but dont wanna follow the laws.

Stay on the sidewalk please.

Going through redlights etc.

Rochard 02-07-2012 04:09 PM

Just outside of my house is a four way stop - a well used main road and two side streets that lead into my little development here. Last weekend a group of guys on bikes decided the stop sign didn't apply to them, and a car pulling out of the side street never saw them. One guy got hit by the car, and the bike behind him hit the car and went over the hood. I don't feel bad.

We have bikers every weekend. Whatever. We have some twenty miles of trails; I ride them myself. Use the fucking sidewalk to get to the trails and then have fun on the trails. Which is more fun? Biking on a street with cars and traffic, or biking on a peaceful trail?

Isn't it illegal to ride a bike on the sidewalk? It is in England. Unless you are 5 years old.

Ride on the road. But obey the traffic rules/laws.

uno 02-07-2012 04:15 PM

hah don't ever go to san francisco, seattle, portland or new york.

brassmonkey 02-07-2012 04:19 PM

Why 02-07-2012 04:41 PM

in seattle its legal to ride on either the street or the sidewalk, however you must follow the same rules as the rest of the people using whichever one you chose.

in other words you cant take the best of both worlds, and ride on the street, and then cross when the walking light is lit.

this is the way i think it should be, i dont mind them riding on either one, but switching between is how people get hurt. as a drive i expect all things on the sidewalk to act the same, and all things on the road to act the same.

Fletch XXX 02-07-2012 04:43 PM

It is against, the law to ride on sideqalk

Matyko 02-07-2012 04:54 PM

i can't agree with that :(
the biker you described is me.

arock10 02-07-2012 04:55 PM

riding a bike in traffic is awesome. If you are breaking the law on a bike and get hit, well that is your own damn fault, but most cyclist doing that realize this

fuck your sidewalks

onwebcam 02-07-2012 05:06 PM

Yep you have to ride on the street

i thought i saw dugmor in a dress at the end :disgust

scubadiver626 02-07-2012 05:19 PM

That video is insane. What cop could stop them or even catch them aside from another bike.

kane 02-07-2012 05:21 PM

Portland is one of the top bike friendly cities in the nation. We have bike lanes everywhere, plenty of places to lock bikes up, racks on the tram and buses for bikes etc. I don't think I have ever gone downtown and not encountered at least one biker who was an asshole. They scream at you to pay attention to them or yield to them, yet they weave in and ot of traffic, up and down onto and off of the sidewalks etc. It is amazing. Like you say they want the rules to be followed, they just don't want to follow them themselves.

arock10 02-07-2012 05:43 PM

Well the big difference is they are driving a 20lb bike while you are driving a 4000lb car. If they want to risk their life breaking the law thats one thing, they aren't going to kill you, just themselves. Its pretty much lose lose for the cyclist in any sort of accident

this is one of my favorites

agreed, they give them bike lanes and shit then they blow red lights. :BangBang:

V_RocKs 02-07-2012 07:39 PM

A friend of mine that likes to "ride" bikes got a ticket for speeding... SPEEDING!

Funny shit. He got clocked in a speed trap going 55 in a 45 zone. Didn't even know that was possible.

bronco67 02-07-2012 07:45 PM

When I was working in NYC and playing a lot of softball, I would take my bike to most of the games -- sometimes all the way up in Harlem. I had some pretty close calls. You have to make a life or death decision every few seconds.

I road bike 200 miles a week, always on the road and follow all traffic laws.
It's illegal to ride on the sidewalk.

He wasn't going 55 unless it was down a 20% grade hill :2 cents:

Most cyclists will try to break the speed limit on purpose... he's got a trophy there :thumbsup

astronaut x 02-07-2012 08:02 PM

I ride on the sidewalk all the time. Cops see me on the sidewalk all the time.
It's illegal to ride on the sidewalk. I have never got a ticket for riding on the sidewalk.

I prefer to ride on the sidewalk. I purposely avoid routes that don't have sidewalks.
Fuck, I won't even ride on some of the bike lanes that are right next to traffic.

I would rather pay a ticket for riding on a sidewalk then buy the farm riding on the street.

96ukssob 02-07-2012 08:05 PM

the most annoying bikers were when I was in LA going to my house in Marina del Rey. those fuckers just crossed the street without looking.

one day I was on the way back and fighting with my ex about something stupid and this old guy just crossed right over the lane and hit the side of my car. I had it and got out, he then proceeded to swing his fanny pack around at me, so I let him chase me for about 30 feet, then ran back and ghost rided his bike down the road :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

he smacked the back of my car as I drove off but was SO fucking worth it

astronaut x 02-07-2012 08:07 PM

By the way, I was in Toronto this past summer, and found it to be a very bike friendly town. Sure beat paying some gimp in a taxi to run up my bill and smog up the town sitting at red lights and stuck in traffic.

Btw, pedestrians are douchebags. Ring ring, on my bike chime means get the fuck out of the way, im coming through.

Crossing the street without looking is just stupid.
Not all people who ride bikes do that.

Fuck there are people in cars that do that.

This thread is about as smart as saying all black people are criminals.

Cars are better? They take up too much room, use up too much energy, pollute the air and spew greenhouse gasses among other things. Your car is making you FAT too. Forget your car and ride your bike instead.

I didnt say ALL bike riders are stupid. I ride a bike and I follow the rules, but its the ones who are stupid and think that it goes bikes > pedestrians > cars > everything/one else is what gets me.

If you are going to ride a bike, follow the fucking rules and dont do stupid shit to put yourself in danger or others. I cant tell you how many times I'm driving during the summer and see a family riding 4 wide which causes me to have to drive in the other lane around a curve. Yeah, could slam on the brakes but when the roads are full of hills and going the speed limit, kind of hard to see them

I doubt you'd get a ticket for riding on the sidewalk here either, kids do it all the time... but it's still illegal.

Not much traffic here, only wide open, smooth asphalt and hella hilly roads.

truth and more truth

I swear, around here riding a bicycle is a license to do whatever the fuck you want.
Stop signs? Red lights? They're just decorations on the roads.

Fetish Gimp 02-07-2012 09:22 PM

Assholes are assholes no matter what kind of vehicle they drive.

Last week I was crossing the street at a corner with the light green for me when a car just blew the red light. I looked at the car and the driver was, surprise surprise, talking on the cellphone.

D Ghost 02-07-2012 09:55 PM

It's the same with cars, sometimes cars don't obey the laws and car accidents happen or pedestrians get hit.

Also, some people don't just "bike for fun" - it's how they get to work and is their main mode of transportation. And quite honestly, I'd rather see a drunk biker than a drunk driver near me.

LOL wow. Dude. Wow.

Ok let me give you some perspective. I drive every day I the Bay Area. We have one of the largest bicycle populations in the world. Now... I am not exadurating when I say that 99/100 run red lights without looking / stopping / or even slightly hesitating. Most will blow through at 30+ mph. I've witnessed them be hit, and I've hit one myself. I've witnessed hundreds of close calls, and almost on a daily basis I need to slam my brakes to avoid hitting them as they blow through my green.

Their perspective is that since they won't kill you, they have the right to do what they want. The problem, however, is that they believe the liability is the person who maims them during their infraction.

Yes, I've seen cars do it... But it happens more like once a year and the ratio is more like 1:1,000,000. Now, compares to 99:100 where do you think the problem exists?

Don't tell me you think because they weigh less, they should have the right to hurl themselves under my wheels or across my hood... And then sue me. They won't win that battle.

They passed a law against hand-held phone use in cars here last month. Cops have been ticketing everybody. I'm loving it.

If only they'd put the same level of enthusiasm into ticketing red-light-running bicycles...

Cops perspective is "it ain't cop stuff if it doesn't involve high speed chases, guns, robbers, rapists and murderers..."

And so the problem continues...

Actually riding wide is legal in some cases.

When I ride, I actually take into consideration the stupidity of people driving cars.

I don't get your frustration with my post. There are idiots on bikes, and there are idiots in cars. The title of this thread, is "People on bikes are douchebags"

Apparently, you accept that all people on bikes are douchebags.

I don't disagree that you see a lot of douchebags on bikes in San Fransisco. Im just saying that not everyone on a bike is a douchebag.

I don't run redlights and stop signs, but I do ride on the sidewalk. I like to keep my distance from motor vehicles. People in cars will throw shit at you as well. Maybe that was one of you assholes in this thread. A few months ago, I got a got a can of soda thrown in my direction. I'm huge on bicycling. I'd say I'm a bicycling enthisiast... And in years past I rode several hundred miles per week. What I'm saying is that vast numbers of bicyclists think no laws apply to them. Sometimes it costs them their lives.

If you live in a metro area, you see it too. Do you ignore it? Sounds like you're advocating it.

If I can video tape an intersection and capture 1000 riders in a single day blowing a red light at full speed... Would you think it was a problem then? That's the magnitude of the problem around here. It's not my imagination and I'm certainly not a hater.

If you just need or want someone to bitch at, Im sure it would be very easy for you to find someone else on here to do that with.

You ride, I ride. I would also say Im a bicycle enthusiast. Im not advocating what you think I am.

Lets just put it in easy terms for you....

a douchebag is a douchebag. Wether they are on a bike or in a car, on a plane or on a train. We all know there are plenty of douchebags right here in this forum and I would bet half if not most would have a heart attack if they even got on a bike or walked a flight of stairs.

I even agreed with you that you probably got a shitful of douchebags on bikes in san fran.

The title of this thread is "people on bikes are douchebags" which is bullshit. Not everyone who rides a bike is a douchebag. Are you a douchebag? Im certainly not going to admit to being a douchebag. So that makes at least 2 people that ride bikes are not douchebags. You could be a douchebag, but lets just say for the sake of this conversation that you are not. That debunks that the comment that "people on bikes are douchebags".

Now if Fris would have said, "85% of people on bikes are douchebags" then that would be more easier to accept, however I would then be interested in how he comes up with those numbers. Is it just the people he sees? Maybe he saw some muscular dude in shape riding with a hot chick and thought... "dag nab it, that guy is a douchebag!!"

Fuck, give it a rest.

People in cars are douchebags. Hows that? People who ride motorcycles are douchebags.
Ive seen lots of motorcyclists ride between cars, and would you believe getting stuck on the interstate them pesky motorcyclists have the nerve the ride between and around cars? The NERVE!! lol

If your on a bike, and you blow through a red light and you get hit. Your not only a douchebag, but you might also get to leave in a giant douchebag, with the words "coroners office" on it.

This thread should have read, "people on bikes who blow through red lights are douchebags" that would have been more socially acceptable to the non douchebag people on bikes.

this is a false assumption... most don't, if most did their would be an epidemic of bicycle deaths going on all over, which there isn't. If they are driving erratically? Dangerously? Stupidly? They deserve what they get, nobody here is denying that, but most do follow the rules you just clump them all together as one for some ignorant reason.

as for staying on trails... some people don't ride mountain bikes oddly enough. You ever ride a road bike on a trail? it's not pretty... Some people like to go places on their bikes, not just ride in circles.
