Guy Dies For Copying The Adventure of Bear Grylls

http://cdn.wg.uproxx.com/wp-content/...7360-95798.jpg

Another cautionary tale for idiots with delusions of potency.

(lifted from http://warmingglow.uproxx.com/2012/0...her-mccandless)

Inspired by Bear Grylls, a 29-year-old British man, David Austin, decided to embark on a year-long adventure in the Scottish wilderness. Unfortunately, the man died in under a month, likely from hypothermia. His body wasn?t discovered until weeks after he had died.

Quote:

Austin is said to have known what he was getting into. Apparently, he had taken a few courses on bushcraft skills and outdoor survival for the past two years. It was always his dream to rough it out for a whole year, and he had taken time off of work to accomplish this. He wanted to be at the mercy of the harsh winter so badly that he did not even carry a mobile phone with him. Last November, he had informed his family that he would be heading north on a survival mission and now the news of his death has left them dumbfounded. (Source: OddityCentral via Burnsy)
The exact cause of his death will always remain a mystery, although ?it was f**king cold? could be described as the inexact cause. I feel bad for the guy?s family, but then again, David Austin knew what he was getting himself into. If you?re going to emulate Bear Grylls, besides drinking your own urine, you might also take a cell phone, a camera crew, and spend a few nights in hotels. If it?s any consolation, Austin lost to a much bigger force than Bear Grylls. Nature is out there, and it?s play or get played. Mother Nature is a bitch, and no amount of urine drinking will spare you from 12 months ? or even three weeks ? of freezing temperatures and heavy snow.

Good. He was a retard.

lucas131 02-07-2012 09:14 AM

assholes, why they did not put some "do not try at home" warning into the show ... oh, now i see, wait ...

Tom_PM 02-07-2012 09:17 AM

Damn. At least emulate the ones where they go to a tropical island full of coconuts, crabs and stupid birds you can kill with a rock.

DamianJ 02-07-2012 09:59 AM

Maybe he hadn't read that Bear gets flown out of wherever he is and spends the nights in a nice hotel?

i read some where that he did this once before, i don't think that equates that he does that every time...

les had to quit cause it was too much wear and tear on his body

baryl 02-07-2012 12:41 PM

Surviroman is a is definitely a much more realistic and better show but it can be pretty uneventful.
Man vs. Wild makes it very clear that they're just demonstrating scenarios.

Pretty sure that was only one of the series.. He is Ex SAS so i think he should be used to sleeping outside once in a while

Outdoor survival in wilderness for humans is difficult. Although it is quite expensive, a room provides basic necessities of life such as heating, cooking and hygiene tools. Some wild animals have been known to live and reproduce in the wild. Be careful.

im not sure why people try and copy shit they see on TV. obviously Bear Grylls has a entire crew with him. something goes wrong, they are not going to sit there and let him die.

PLUS, he staged a lot of his adventures and situations, not for his sake but the safety of his crew

pornguy 02-07-2012 01:53 PM

What a fucking moron.

PR_Glen 02-07-2012 03:33 PM

hate to think what might have happened if he watched jersey shore instead...

the horror...

It sucks dying stupidly.

John-ACWM 02-08-2012 10:44 AM

Stupidity kills.

12clicks 02-08-2012 10:48 AM

Scotland has enough wilderness to get lost in?

Vendot 02-08-2012 12:29 PM

The thing about Bear Grylls is that he makes it look so easy but actually the guy is amazingly experienced at that kind of thing.

L-Pink 02-08-2012 12:35 PM

For me a hotel without a lounge is roughing it.

.

WarChild 02-08-2012 12:43 PM

Yes Bear's showed is obviously staged and all that, but the guy is still a serious dude. Ex SAS who broke his back on a jump and went on to be one of the youngest to climb Everest. Reading his book shows him in a better light I think.

Tom_PM 02-08-2012 01:05 PM

They've always put it into the show that certain things have been left for him. Like the one where he finds a dead sheep, skins it, and inflates the skin as a raft to cross a lake. Pretty intense and all that, but it WAS left there for him in ideal condition.
