The Friend Route:
 

I've done a great deal of research on this subject, along the way I have discovered some interesting aspects of human behavior. One in particular that could apply to you is what I have given the term "Friend Route". The friend route is one of the lowest forms of male to female interaction, and it rarely ever works.
Allow me to put it in perspective.
For sake of illustrating my point I am going to set up a scenario dealing with 2 people maleA and femaleB, names Wang and Twat respectively. Wang is a bit overweight, has regular to not good facial features, has a less than stellar IQ, and doesn't have many friends the ones he does have are equally lame. He is unsure of himself at most times, and beats off thinking about regular girls who would be attainable to most standards. Now Twat on the other hand is a relatively average girl, average looks average brain, can't seem to get the guys that she would like to be in relationship with because there is "just something about her" that they don't like, that something is possibly her inability to go one day without having some sort of male counterpart in her life.
So one day Wang and Twat meet, probably at work (work-friend-route) or at school (school-friend-route) or is introduced by someone as being a harmless male, or somehow introduces himself as being the harmless male (these are the purest forms of "friend route", and most dangerous)
Wang asks to take Twat out to do something completely monogomous, maybe going to get coffee or possibly to help her run some errands, nothing that would resemble a date or imply sexual interest. Friendroute Wang knows all too well that if he tries to go on an actual date with Twat that it will only cause her to say something like "Wang, I like you as a friend thats all. do you know that?" Wang does not want to hear this, it would ruin this idealized image of her in his head, this idealized image of them together, how would he be able to obsess over her if that was broken? So before Twat knows it Wang has taken over for all of the things in her life that she finds uncomfortable to do herself, he drives her to work and school, helps her pay the bills, is always there for her when she needs someone to talk to.
Everything is going as planned, now Wang has a few perks from this relationship too, when he needs a friend/date for a wedding she is there and when they got drunk that one time they made out. This is as close as friendroute guy ever gets to most women. Yes Wang is happy, but it is all an ilusion to him because when Twat is asked "is that your boyfriend" she says something like "God No!" A few times he has overheard this said, but gives little thought to it, "not her boyfriend yet" he thinks to himself....

So, as you can see friendroute guy can be anywhere, he is a sneaky little bastard who can cover his tracks with the quickness of a master ninja and using his mantra "were friends" or "were just friends" he can lull the strongest of minds into submission.
Now the question comes to this: is Karey a friend route guy?
Because of the friendroute's inherit desperation, and his complete inability to do the "cold call" (pick up a woman who he does not know through some social network that is already in place) Im going to say Karey is not a friend route guy. I've seen the kid turn down head because "she didn't turn me on"...friendroute guy never turns down anything. And plus he is gay, that would explain all the girl talk that you weren't involved in, you know nails, hair, shoes....

Once you get to an age where you don't care and can just talk about whatever with a girl, it is all moot.

Any situation where I ended up in the friend position, I let myself be put there before making anything clear.

If you meet a girl, and are cool and confident, then discuss sex, dating, and make yourself seem viable, it never happens.

Worst thing I heard in recent years was "I want a boyfriend, not just random sex - so we can go out, but I want something serious."

That is almost as bad as being "just friends." I swear, it is like some girls are casting for the role of their boyfriend and will take any willing and viable candidate...

Of course, I hear stories from girls all the time of guys who lie, saying they want that, nail the girls, then disappear.

This is such bullshit. The "friend route" is meant to get in contact with the girl's friends and bang them.

For example: Guy A meets Girl B. A doesn't consider B very attractive, and does not really want to bang her on a regular basis. However, B has many female friends, so A starts hanging out with her regardless. This gets him in contact with C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L and M, B's female friends. A gets to hang out/get drunk with C-L, and very often bangs one of them. When he can't find a girl to bang for the night, he can always resort to banging B. In short, A bangs good and often. It's almost like having his own harem.
Eventually, though, one or more of the subjects B-M will fall in love with him, or he will have banged them all. When that happens, he will go have to find a new B, which is a bit annoying.

In general, if you start by finding a girl attractive and telling her, you could be digging your crave.

Rent Magnolia, pay attention to the Tom Cruise parts. :)
