Had my DNA analyzed through 23andme.com , here are some results.
The cost of $200, I got through sequencing done on my DNA to find out risks. Turns out my risk for Alzheimer's is fairly high, about 1 in 6 as opposed to 1 in 15 for the rest of the public.
A lot of the things I have a high risk for run in my family in somebody. 23andme.com did do a good job, without me telling them anything they got right that I was white, curly brown hair, eyes likely blue (correct), I'm 100% European (my paternal is centered right around the Czech republic as I'm 25% czech) and my mom's more dispearsed. It's really interesting and should help you in determining things to maybe look at for later in life. I'm still relatively young (27 now) but age catches on in this fast paced world. http://ebonyfeed.com/images/0Hqbs.jpg http://ebonyfeed.com/images/NIJqc.jpg |

I should also mention they got a lot of other things right, like my muscle type, which matched up to that of a great middle distance runner (I was the best in our high school).
I really think this is a good tool to help in preventative maintenance. |
Does this site or are there any other sites like this that have an affiliate program ?

That rocks! I want to get it done.
|
I also want to get it done some time soon. I thought it was more like $600+, $200 is not bad at all.
|
I'm sorry, but it is almost useless. Yes it looks nice as curiosity but does not really tell you anything. How are you going to change your life style now?

but you are probably right, it's useless cause for example really it doesn't matter if your chance of getting prostate cancer is 20 or 30%, you should get screened for it regularly anyway... same with diabates, etc... |

I'd be *very* wary of a lot of those predictions listed, since none of them have any know genetic predisposition. Guessing your eye, hair, skin colour is simple stuff as it's all Mendelian genetics following dominant/recessive genetic rules. A few SNP sequences will determine geographical roots. I think geoPlugin does that too. I wouldn't throw $200 away on this at all... Now, if they provide you with your whole genome sequence, then that's a bargain. |
Cool.
Speaking of family history, my aunt has in in-depth family tree that she has been working on for the past 10 years. It's incredible. Apparently we have roots all the way back to Julius Caesar himself. Though I'm sure he was fucking everything that moved so I'd guess many would have the same. |
very cool!

You'll be hit by a bus tomorrow.

Nice gambling site ...

Fuck That Shit...
Sorry not a fan... I wouldn't want to know any of that shit... I have regular check ups with my private health care... that will do me !
Looking into the future and saying what % something might happen would just worry the shit out of me... Prevention, not sure what you can do for most of those diseased in the way of pro active prevention... I'm just hoping "House" is the lead consultant when I go to hospital... |
this is cool...someone recently told me about this..i was thinking of doing it
|
Maybe faceobook can buy them out and they can just post for you when you need to take a shit.
