It wasn't broke... and now I broke it in Google... :(
So a few days ago I decided to tweak something that was #1 in Google and on a site that was making me about $1K a month solid for a loooooong time.
Instant page 3 the next day... So I switched it back... Now page 1 at spot #9... Now it makes me no money... Can I cry here? I feel like I already am... So... :waaaaahh :waaaaahh :waaaaahh Always follow the simple rule: If it ain't broke, don't fix it! |
true If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
but i made a change to one of my sites dropped off google for a few about a week and now its back better than ever. |
$1000 per month to $0 per month from one tweak? Ouch...
I'd like to think there is more to the story What is the site? |
what did you tweak so we can avoid.
|
last time I managed to mess one up it dropped to page #3 and then totally vanished when I tried to undo my 'improvement' :(
|
Yeah I've killed several good sites by trying to improve... So know the pain. Biggest mistake I made was converting all my hand coded html sites over to cms years ago. Did them all in a matter of weeks and killed the lot all at once.
|
Why did you mess with it in the first place?

The change was for converting eyeballs into tour takers... Changed some wording... Added campaign codes to some links... Adding some wording... |

Pretty obvious the number one reason anyone makes changes to their website is to increase revenue. :thumbsup |
It sucks that happened, but what a valuable lesson. Not "if it's not broke, don't fix it," but you now know what words and changes can take your site, and perhaps others from page 3 in google to page 1.
|
lol yeah sucks i've done that before more than once.
|
What's the site?
|
Would you like some cheese with that whine?
|
Been there done that. I just can't seem to help myself sometimes.
Maybe I should scramble my FTP passwords. |
My little rule of thumb for established sites is add, but don't change or remove.

To really be able to say you can generate traffic is a process devoid of any 3rd party.

U never change a winning horse :)

If it ain't broke, don't fix it! |
