Photoshop Guru's, Step Inside :::
OK so I have a Photoshop issue that I can't seem to resolve. I've Googled & YouTube'd for answers but found none. I'm suspecting operator error but I can't figure out what I did :Oh crap
I'm working on a picture that has about 10 layers on it. When I click the "B" key to go to the brush tool, Photoshop temporarily actives the brush tool but then it bounces right back to the tool that I had selected before that. I can hold down "Shift" to change tools and it seems to work. This is not just a brush tool problem, it does this no matter what tool that I want to use. I tracked the issue down to a luminosity layer in the picture. When I click off that layer, the issue went away. When I clicked on that layer, the problem was back. I deleted the layer last evening and everything seemed fine. Today, I start to work on the picture again and add a "color" adjustment layer and the problem came back. I can open up a different picture in PS and the problem seems to go away. But with this picture, the problem is there. I'm on a Mac Pro and have deleted the Photoshop preference file. I've repaired permissions, restarted etc..etc. Nothing seems to work. Am I overlooking something??? Thanks!!! |
You probably already did this but i didnt see it specifically - save as a new file?
|
That is odd.
I don't really know but here are two silly things to try. 1st make sure any open apps are closed as sometimes, programs with similar hotkeys tend to take preference over other programs. I don't think this is it since you say it only happens when you click on a layer that has luminosity selected. Another thing which is silly as well but worth a shot s to save the file as a layered tiff, close everything, reopen photoshop and open the tiff. Maybe that psd file is corrupt in some way. Also, you don't have a non us setting on your keyboard do ya? I think I heard somewhere the qwerty mac keyboards can be glitchy if not set to us settings. |
caps lock can cause issue's too.
|
Almost sounds like a stuck key on kb.

Problem solved yet? |
yea im asusming stuck key too but youre talking about mask layers effecting the key functions... odd indeed.
|
If it is just happening in that one file I would look for a corrupt layer by deleting layers one at a time.
(you can always copy the layers into a new file for safe keeping) |
Yea, I'm still having this issue.
It's weird, I open the pic in PS CS5.1 and it has this issue, open it in CS4 on the same computer and the issue is still there. I can open the same pic on a different computer with CS4 and the problem is gone. Sounds like an issue with my computer then wouldn't you say? If the picture had a corrupt layer, it would still be corrupt when I opened it with a different computer ...... |
Hey guys....here's the problem:

I can only recommend double checking that you dont have any apps that fight for the hotkeys like, i know icq for example messes wth the nums lock key in another program of mine.
If you have a different keyboard, I would plug another one in and test it, just to make double sure it isnt something strange with the keyboard. If that doesn't work and you are sick of trying things/waiting fro an answer, save all your actions and custom brushes to your desktop, do a fresh install and reload them in ps. I googled Photoshop hotkey not working mac, and some other terms and people either had problems with the default mac keyboard if it was non us, some language setting on the mac itself. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Best of luck. |

Hi Dean, did you ever get this fixed? Curious to know what was the cause/fix.
|
Just a quick suggestion, but try to open the on screen keyboard and see if any keys are stuck.
|
Also, which OS are you using? There's a similar problem in Mac OS X 10.6.6 that's fixed in 10.6.7..
|
I wouldnt know because I dont use the keyboard shortcuts. I just use the mouse for commands. But here is a bump.
